I have interview for unpaid internship next month, and I hope I REALLY get it.

But is one internship enough? Do premeds usually only do one intenrship?

Unless you are interning for the White House, more then likely, no admission committee cares.

Also a unpaid internship is effectively volunteering, aka everyone does it.

It's more about the quality of your internship rather than length but there is a minimum length I would consider before considering an internship as quality enough. I would put that at around 100 hours. However, you also have to consider your peers. The best of us have hundreds of hours per activity for quite a few activities. Unfortunately, this favors those of high SES. This game is rigged but got to play to win.

Oh I should have phrased the title better into "How many hours of internship would be competitive enough?" I am a foreign student so I have this pressure that I have to do extra to be competitive enough.

I guess chemical engineereing CO-op won't be that much helpful, at least for med school?

Buy the MSAR. Figure out which schools you can apply to (accepts foreign students). Fill your standard checklist stuff. Shadowing, clinical experience and volunteering. Destroy the MCAT. 3.8+ GPA. Then, on top of all this, do what you love to make yourself interesting.

I would consider anything under 50 hours trivial. At a 100 hours, there's some sort of psychological effect that makes it 10x better than 95 hours.
