I want to apply in a pharmacy school later when I finish a BS degree. Now, Im in a ccc, next month I have to transfer to a university. I dont now what major I should apply. I kindda like pharmaceutical science major in UC Irvine. It seems let me know better about drugs and stuff. But I wonder is it harder (or easier) compare to biology or biochem major? I could see lots of people who want to apply in pharmacy school are in bio/biochem/chem major. Please tell me what major I should apply. thank you so much 🙂

The best major for pharm school is the major you can get the best grades with.

yea, true. But I don't if that major is harder than other majors like bio/biochem/chem? :scared:

Personally from UC Irvine, I would suggest for you to simply declare Biological Sciences major first, before thinking of any advanced one. You must see whether you can handle the core courses first and whether you are interested in any of the subjects.

You do not simply pursue a major because you "like" the sound of it without realizing the difficulty level or if it is the right major for you.

Best of luck.

Most schools, if not all, really do not care what you majored in. The most important thing is that you completed the pre-requisites and that your grades are pretty good among others.

Pharmaceutical science is a separate major from Biology. That's why I wonder if Pharmaceutical science is easier or if different, how difference?

I say go for the major that your most interested in because it all comes down to how passionate you are at the subject that gets you the good grades. I majored in Toxicology because it is interesting and parallels with the same core concepts in pharmaceutical science.

I agree that the best major is the one you can get the best grades in, but I would add and 2) prepares you best for the PCAT and 3) prepares you best for the essays, interviews, etc. in the admissions process. I put up a YouTube video on this called "Best Pre-Pharmacy Major".

I would just match up all the curriculum's you are thinking about selecting as a major, and then see which ones best match the most pre-req's (consider the fact that some pre-reqs for different schools vary slightly), and go with that one. Unless you find a major you actually enjoy doing.

IMO, best major for you is

1. fulfill all pre-requisites for pharmacy schools
2. easiest (or fastest) degree you can get

since you decide to go to pharmacy school, whatever major you have for undergrad is not a matter at all. Schools look at if you 'have' bachelor degree or not..not 'what' major you are. Hope this helps.

That doesn't mean do something weird major like... 'Pornology' or 'Starcraft' :meanie:

Also depends on where you want to take your career. I'm interested in clinical pharmacy and so I'm going to take some courses that might give me greater perspective on the conditions the medications help with. Such as endocrinology, immunology and virology.

I don't think it will help me gain a position or anything, but they interest me, and if you like a class psychology says you always do better in something that interests you. Find classes that interest you and boost that GPA 🙂
