Well aware of the problems in pharmacy, but can't this be cured by electing Bernie Sanders? I am fine with making less money out of the gate if I have my loans wiped out. And as far as not finding a job, I will certainly be less stressed in between jobs if I have universal healthcare and am not worried about going bankrupt from my insulin.

You do realize Democrats also need to take Congress too right?

His plans will never pass

I see that the problem is no job. It's not about low wage or student debt. You'll be in between jobs forever. That's what I see.
The current REPAYE/PAYE/IBR forgiveness programs and Obamacare are not bad at all.

Thats comforting at least. I'm honestly fine with PAYE but I just hope they don't revoke it or something.

What is he going to do after he forgives all that debt? Is he still going to let students borrow $200k+ to go to pharmacy school?

In this case saturation would get even worse since pharmacy schools get a free $200k per student - at taxpayers' expense. You'll see even more pharmacy schools open.

Did he say he'll make college affordable or free? (I haven't followed his policies.)

No one wants to actually change the healthcare system. Both parties and the president support banning surprise billing and they can’t even get that going.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. If they hand out student loan bailouts like Oprah hands out cars, who do you think will pay for it? Oh and don't forget $15 minimum wage too. When your front store employees and techs in training make that much, guys what happens to pharmacist salary?

Pharmacy is dead.

$15 min wage will happen but have you been to McDonalds and Panera lately? All touch screen ordering, and try to flag down a person and they’ll point to the machine.

This is why we have practically no inflation this derp into an economic expansion.

At least part of this didn't age very well.
Bernie is basically liberal Trump in a way. Nobody thinks he can win. His own party is trying to get someone else to win. The other party thinks they will crush him in the general election.

Yet he keeps winning. He has established a cult of personality. His followers are fanatics.

Bernie can win the presidency. He beats Trump in head to head polling in swing states. An economic downturn and Sanders walks to 270.

Conservatives need to be careful what they wish for or they will get a dose of the same medicine liberals have been receiving with Trump in office. They will call your fascism and raise you heavy handed socialism.

Should be a crazy year.

@WVUPharm2007 I am not sure that the DNC isn't going to regret how much Bernie is labeled a socialist. While he isn't my first choice, I don't think he is that much more radical than FDR was. He policies certainly much more in line with first world countries in Europe, not like Venezuela (a favorite comparison on my Facebook feed). Him winning will depend much more on voter turnout than anything. If the 18-30 group gets out to vote in the same numbers as the 60+ group, Trump is screwed and traditionally red states will turn blue. If they think that surely trump won't win again, I think it is possible that we will repeat 2016.

Regardless, I don't think that pharmacy is any more screwed with Bernie than any other frontline healthcare workers. It is possible that a change in payment will mean that the abilities of a pharmacist to control costs will be more valuable in a single payer system, not less.

Fascism huh? I'm glad you think we have a strong leader right now.

Fascism huh? I'm glad you think we have a strong leader right now.

I don't think it can be denied he's a strong leader. The man broke several laws, openly admitted it, is ridiculously corrupt to a point not seen since Warren Harding, is a puppet of the FSB (be it willing or unwilling), and is generally a giant laughing stock to the entire planet. And yet he made them stand strong and sweep his litany of problems under the rug. I didn't think the standard "My Country 'Tis of Thee" Republican establishment would gleefully abandon all of their values at the drop of a hat like they did. But here we are.

I think Bernie can greatly help pharmacists in two ways. Eliminate pbms and increase corporate taxes. These two things alone will lead to an increase in independent pharmacies, more competition and diversify the market. I think he could bring down the cvs/Walgreens monopoly. We need private ownership in this country again. Not mega corporations monopolizing and raping the middle class. Cvs was able to monopolize because of tax loopholes that gave them an edge over independents and then vertical integration will allow them to control consumer behavior at the expense of independents. Breakup chain pharmacies and revive this horrible profession.

I'd rather have the govt hand out free education and health care to the people than govt handout to the millionaires, billionaires and coporations.

We have tried trickle down economic and it doesn't work. It's more like piss on the Middle Class and trickles to the poor. You are mad at the wrong issues. You are mad they are forced to pay a living wage at $15/hr but corporate cut back benefits to their employees, reduce hours, and wage freeze during economic prospesity.

US income inequality surgest to the highest level in $50 years, but you are more outrage about the minimum wage $15/hr than crony capitalism.

If it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is. If a used car salesman made the same exact promises to you, would you still trust him? Promises are meant to be broken. You can never take anyone’s word for it. Look at their resume. In other words, look before you leap.
You’re fine with making less money as a pharmacist? Why would anyone be okay with that? You went four years of professional school just to make less money? You don’t even need to go to pharmacy school to make less money.
Student loan forgiveness can only be passed by Congress. If it does pass, who do you think is going to pay for it? YOU. Every single dollar that you make. Every little thing that you own. Sorry folks. There’s no such thing as free stuff. You can’t get something for nothing.
You may not go bankrupt with insulin. But the country will go bankrupt with universal healthcare. There isn’t enough money in the world to pay for the healthcare of over 300 million Americans. With the shortage of doctors, nurses, and hospitals, expect rationed care, and all of your medical visits will transform into the DMV. You won’t go bankrupt but you certainly won’t get your insulin.

I'm mostly mad that they want to cancel everyone's student loans and don't care about those who paid them off already.

Bernie will never get elected President.

I didn't think Trump would be nominated as Republican candidate or become President but look where we are.

The stock market is weakening and if this coronavirus continues longer, it can be a disaster for his re-election. What if it spread in the US just like in Korea and Italy. This combined with broken promises such as repeal Obamacare and build a wall, and make Mexico pay for it could impact his chances of re-election along with other scandals that has happened and yet to be discovered. I know enough to say I don't know and 2020 have alot of uncertainty.

I'm mostly mad that they want to cancel everyone's student loans and don't care about those who paid them off already.

It isn't fair just like businesses that took less risk and didn't require govt to bail them out or file bankruptcy. Who knows, it might be a compromises on student loan forgiveness like Warren's proposal of partial forgiveness based on income.

Yes. Warren's proposal is much better than Bernie's. It actually helps ppl who really can't pay back their loans.

I agree honestly, the situation for us new grads sucks, but it is not fair to those of you who budgeted properly and payed it back.
It is criminal to ask government to subsidize for student loans. Whoever is proposing this crap is basically asking a whole bunch of blue collar people who never went to college, worked their butt off to make ends meet & put food on the table, to pay for your education when they didn't even get the chance to enjoy themselves? How dare you?

what is her proposal ? Last I checked it was just forgiveness of up to 50 K. Maybe it's changed.
Yes, up to 50K.
50K for ppl whose income is less than 100K.
Bernie wants to cancel all the debt. That's too much money. Ppl don't want that bc they don't want to pay more tax. And many ppl who actually can pay back have their debt cancelled too.

too good to be true??? Every developed country has some form of universal healthcare. America is the only country that let’s big pharma and insurance companies rape us. Mostly due to an idiotic electorate that votes on emotion than logic.

Iraq war was meaningless and cost 2.4 trillion. And only helped a handful of multinational corporations. Student loan debt is 1.4 trillion and eliminating it will help millions and lead to a healthier economy.

If we can waste 2.4 trillion in Iraq and another 3.7 trillion in Afghanistan and then give another 2 trillion in tax cuts to the rich then universal healthcare and student debt relief is affordable. The pathetic politicians in Washington are gonna waste our money anyway. Question is...do you want them to waste it on corporate welfare ie pointless wars and tax cuts that only help a small minority. Or do you want them to waste it on actual policies that help people. 4 years of Bernie spending money on healthcare, student loans, climate change....sounds alot better than 4 years of trump wasting trillions more on meaningless tax cuts, or building a stupid wall or wasting trillions on wars that don’t accomplish anything.

Sanders is proposing to pay for the legislation with a new tax on financial transactions, including a 0.5 percent tax on stock transactions and a 0.1 percent tax on bonds," the Post reported. "Such a levy would curb Wall Street speculation while reducing income inequality, according to a report by the Century Foundation"

Warren Gunnels, Sanders's staff director, tweeted, "If we could give a multi-trillion bailout to Wall Street, yes we can make college for all a reality."

He is literally taking from white collars on wall street to pay for the debt...lol.
Still sound criminal??

Bernie election just showed me how effective the media is at protecting the false and dishonest narratives of the Democrats and Republican establishments. Both establishments have the same goals and that is to protect corporate interests. The same corporate interests that give politicians millions in campaign donations and then offer them a cushy BS job when they leave Washington. This scary socialist narrative is BS. The real scary narrative is the crony capitalism we live in today. But the media never talks about that because they benefit from the current system.

But yeah...be afraid of Bernie and let the crappy policies of today continue. Cant wait to see merlo get another tax cut from trump. Cause you know tax cuts create jobs. At least that’s what republicans keep saying. But then why are tech hours always being cut. Must be Bernie fault.

Berners: if you are against bernies solutions then you don’t agree with the problems that need to be solved

If you implement a tax on trades, the number and frequency of trades will not continue to stay at the same rate. The rich will move their transactions to other stock markets around the world and to other forms of investing. Yes berners, unchecked greed is a problem. However it’s foolish to think you’ll eliminate greed.

Do I want everyone to have healthcare? Yes. Do I think Bernies solution to accomplish this is smart? No.

Tech hours get cut all the time cuz pharmacists & techs are spineless. getting hours cut is still much much better than being unemployed.

Today's pharmacists & pharmacist wanna-be are the ones who were really greedy, and that's why they signed up those loans, to get an easy 6 figure job as they wished. But remember, not all pharmacy schools are created equal. Of course there are schools that are charging outrageous amounts, i.e. USC, but there are also schools charge little, ie. Purdue. Did schools force all applicants to go to expensive schools? Hell no, but those pharmacist wanna-be were so greedy that they didn't care. And that's why they accumulated so much debt in the first place. So now they are near default all due to their greed, why should government bail them out?

Bailing out wallstreet is fundamentally different than bailing out student loans. Bailing out GM during Great Recession at least the government, or the taxpayer, has a chance to get their investment back, if share price bounds back eventually. What would bailing out student loans get anything back for the government or taxpayers? NOTHING~ That's no longer a bailout. That's wasting taxpayers' money, for absolutely nothing.

I don't disagree with your thesis. The problem with Bernie is what are you left with once a republican house shuts down all of his grand ideas? Lets be honest, a lot the stuff he campaigns on are basically Trump's wall. Never going to happen, but it rallies the troops. What kind of president would
Bernie be without universal healthcare or student loan forgiveness? What if he raises taxes but doesn't deliver on free healthcare or other subsidies?

Half-assed socialism actually sounds worse than full-blown socialism to me.

He'll do what he can get away with from both executive orders and via being the top dog in the executive branch. Just like Trump tried to do with the Muslim travel ban, trying to divert defense spending to the wall, etc. Expect an executive order removing marijuana from schedule I, expect an executive order allowing him to respond to the "emergency" that is climate change, expect things I haven't even thought up yet.

I actually fear the president(s) after Trump more than Trump to be completely honest. Trump is an authoritarian and a fascist. But he's also the biggest dip**** to ever hold office. Thankfully the man is too inept to really be that dangerous. (I hope, anyway) I don't want to consider what an executive with a considerable amount of intelligence and savvy like Bernie Sanders could get hypothetically get away with now that Trump has established frightening new norms with consideration to executive powers. IMO, one of the first things we need to do is reel in the executive branch. It has too much power and not nearly enough oversight.

Bernie is a jackass, who 1) is tailing Pete Buttigieg 2) will get destroyed by Trump even if he wins the primary 3) is helped by Putin right now on the cyber campaign

He won't get elected, period~

So, back to your question, NO and NO
Pete Buttigieg is dropping out of the race today.

No question that Trump's presidency has set a new threshold for who can make it to the office and how they can behave once they get there. I was hoping we'd see more "non-traditional" candidates moving forward, but so far in the dem primaries it looks like we've returned to the old world order; super old career politicians.

That assumes that Bernie would win this year with a red shift in the house. I think if Bernie wins, a Blue shift in the Senate is more likely. Unlike Trump, who didn't fulfill his promises in the two years they had all of congress, I'll bet an entirely blue congress will pass a lot of legislation.

If the house and senate stays as they are, then I think we will probably see some of what we see now. Things the house pass will die in the Senate that can just refuse to vote on them.

Did y'all see this CBS poll? Y'all are dismissing Sanders way too easily just because he identifies as a democratic socialist.

Primary voters are not the general electorate. They tend to over-represent the passionate crowd and leave out the moderates. This poll isn't that surprising.
