Is Predents.com an underrepresentation of the real applicant pool?

predents is a wonderful site but I'm not sure how accurate it is...
for example...In an NYU interview I had, only two other people stated on predents that their interview was on the same day as mine. Until you get to the boardroom you realize there is around 13 interviewing. Should we assume that interview numbers listed besides schools on the home page of predents is a big time underrepresentation of the interviewing pool (13-3 = 10) almost 5-10 times of what the value should be??

definitely an under-representation of numbers of applicants/interviewers/etc. but it is definitely skewed towards "higher caliber" applicants, meaning people who are comfortable posting their already high scores n such. how many predent profiles do you see with statistics below the 50th percentile? absolutely zero. so predents only paints part of the picture.

i have a UNLV interview tomorrow, and according to predents there are 4 other people who should be there. But according to Dr. Ancajas (from admissions) they interview at least 20 people per interview day.

It might be under representing, but you could always extrapolate the data given ...

There are 60 students at my upcoming UNC interview. Only 3 are currently listed on pre-dents..

I guess others are not freaking out as much, or as said above, they aren't comfortable posting stats. One thing I have noticed when on SDN, there are always around 100 people viewing, yet only 20 or so are members. It makes me think that other students (non-members) are reading posts and taking advice, yet don't feel comfortable revealing themselves or their situations..

:idea:Lets see....Lets say predents says ~300 applicants, say 60 interviews, and 20 acceptances from last year at a given school... yes that school only had 20 students accepted last year. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh plllleeeassseeee use more common sense than this, i just cringed when i saw this post. sorry to be rude, but jeeez

You might want to be a little more organized when quoting a post? lol.

I find it very useful tool to see movement and as other posters mentioned we could extrapolate numbers.... some schools represented better than others...
Marquette posted 40 people- reality interviews 300
Tufts 47- pre Dec 185
BU 51 ... should be somewhere 230
Pitt 57.... should be 160
UIC 10... should be 60
Louisville 57.... should be somewhere 300 plus
I find it especially useful to see last years trends, does the school likes to finish forming class early, does it gives plenty of invites post Dec, how early rejections are sent, does the school notify all pre Dec applicants with accept/ reject/ waitlist on Dec 1 or only sends acceptances Dec 1 and rejections much later etc...

Wow, is Tufts really that confident that they can fill their larger class size with only (an estimated) 185 interviews?? Or do they only try and fill half of their class? I thought someone wrote on another post that they were trying to fill their class earlier this year? Anyone know why they give out so little pre-december invites (in relation to their class size)

I dont know, maybe they form a big wait list from pre-dec invites or have a really high post dec acceptance rate. I'm hoping they send one my way though.

Edit: A search from last cycle on predents shows that 82 people were interviewd after 12/1. 58 were accepted.

Wow

any word on how many people NYU interviews pre dec and how many offers they usually send out?

I hear they have a long wait list

I've heard their wait list is long too, but it gets a lot of movement in the spring. Maybe Doc Toothache has some numbers regarding interview patterns.

Yea, go check out the NYU c/o 2013 acceptance thread. You will see all these people getting accepted, but no one goes b/c of tuition... That is where the wait list comes into play, and which is why it is so long.

Fang Banger? YOU DISGUST ME!

I am guessing that you multiply the number between 6~9 to what u see and that's about right.

Yes, can't wait for S3 🙁

I know. I cracked and started reading the books. On the 7th now. They are amazing and satisfy the craving. It will also keep you from stressing. At NYU I actually talked to my interviewer about the series. I went on for about 10 minutes until he made the obvious transition back to dentistry. Charlaine Harris, the author of the series actually went to my undergrad. She has some serious sexual fantasies about vampires. Borderline creepy..

How did it go from the interview to talk about TB? LOL

We had been talking for a while about my experiences and dentistry blah blah blah, so then asked for me to tell him stuff that was not on my application. So I mentioned some hobbies and reading was one. I had been reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels non stop so I asked him if he watched True Blood or at least heard of it. It was a stretch b/c my interviewer was the head of a huge research committee/ grant and did not seem like a vampire contisuer, but he had heard of it. So I just talked about why I liked the books about the author. I'm sure I told him more than he cared to hear. I tried to talk to him about Dexter, but he didn't watch the show. For some reason he kept wanting to talk about me and dentistry, hehe 😴

dude, i think dexter is an amazing show...too bad he hasn't killed anyone the last 2 episodes

Now, if your interviewer likes Entourage...he's pretty freakin cool.

By far the best show on TV. Wow, the new season has been so good, I hadn't even realized his kill-less streak. Trinity has been doing all the killing. I'm sure we'll see Dexter's dark passenger in action soon enough

To answer the original post, I think those on SDN tend to be:

more informed, technology savvy, have higher stats, and a little bit more anxiety ridden. Each person could be one, multiple, or none of these things.
