Hey guys,

I'm an incoming junior and about to start studying for the DATs right now. I recently took the Kaplan practice test without studying at all just to see how I would do and I pulled off a 15.

The materials look kinda expensive and I was just wondering if studying off of MCAT materials will help prepare me for the DAT? I mean, it's the same subjects right? Minus physics, writing, etc. I have a lot of pre-med friends who are done with their MCATs and I can borrow these materials for free, rather than spending about a $150+ on those kaplan books, dat achiever, etc.

For those of you who have taken the DATs, do you think this would help?

As far as I know.... Mcat doesn't cover Plant biology (or maybe just a few things). Also... topics like endocronology and nervous systems are much thoroughly explained in DAT book compared to that in MCAT.
What you can do is study MCAT books and then study Plant bio and Genetics from your Gen Bio book. Apart from this, I think MCAT's cover pretty much everything (obviously except perceptual ability section).
To practice exams, I highly recommend you get TopScore....

I studied with both DAT and MCAT books. For Chemistry, MCAT was tops hands down. It was also good for Biology. However, the DAT covers math and the perceptual aptitude test which are not covered on the MCAT. I would suck it up and buy a DAT book because the perceptual portion is more heavily weighted than you think.
