Is taking 2x 10mg tablets the same as taking 1 20mg tablet?

In every case I could fathom....yes. There may be some weird controlled release thing I'm not taking into effect...I dunno. But if there is, I'm not aware of it.

If taking 2 x 10 instead of one 20mg, you would be getting almost double the excipients, but that wouldn't be significant most of the time.

Yes, assuming same formulation-many hospitals will only stock 1 strength of a pill to save inventory space, or to cut down on loading different strengths on dispensing machines. We carry only lisinopril 10 mg, hctz 25 mg, diovan 80 mg, and so on. The only time I know of a patient complaint involved geodon. All we carry is 20 mg tabs. The pt was taking 160 mg. Obviously, being a paranoid schizophrenic he was not happy when nurse tried to give him 8 pills insted of 2.

Not only to save space, but in many cases to be more cost efficient. 🙂

10 + 10 = ?

Dang this math is too hard for me.

Ditto (though we don't have ziprazodone in Canada yet).

Though being a jail, we have about 20% MMI (major mental illness). I carry numerous strengths of Zyprexa, Risperdal and Seroquel to accommodate these folks, as some of our people get violent when they're not compliant with their meds (why they're in jail in the 1st place).

I'd strongly recommend making allowances for psych pts if it means the difference between taking and not taking their meds.
