What is your cell phone use policy? should I stop techs use cell phone or texting at work? it’s so not professional when texting during work, but seems like my Rxm don’t care... any advise ? A staff rph at greenwal 🙂

I use my cellphone at work but solely for work-related things like finding discount cards, texting my rxm or reading the 15 emails a day we get from our our boss. If I'm completely caught up, I mighttt text a family member once or twice during my 12 hour shift.
Basically, I set the example, so if we're slow I don't mind having their phone out as long as NO customers are around (almost never) or they go hide out of sight if they need to take any important calls during a long shift(kids, family issues). Even as a staff, you're ultimately the manager during your shift so just let them know your expectations for professionalism.

I had a convo my first week and asked them what their previous expectations were with cellphone use when I noticed they were using them often. They said they weren't allowed at all with previous PIC. I told them my expectations and they quickly complied. I do have a weird relationship with my techs where we treat each other like garbage on purpose but we work really well together, so the usual "quick slacking off and get your a-- back to work" does the trick if it presents itself.

exactly. The wages for techs are already too low to deal with the stress they have to deal with. Take their phones away so they can't text/snapchat/instagram? you won't have many techs left

Wow, that may be true, I do not mind they use it for personal matters when not busy, but how do you feel when you are helping them out wait on custermers and answer phone calls but they are on their cell phone texting? If everybody think it’s ok, then I will adjust myself.

How about CVS or WalMart ? I remembered that WalMart pharmacy is not allowed their staff use cell phone at work at all before, things may have changed nowadays thou.

You may be right in some point. But I am not a PIC , I want to maintain a “good “ work enviortment, may be I am too “ nice”. However I did stop them a few times but then they continue doing it, do I have to ask them to stop each time when we are busy ?

Reality vs practice are two different things. The rules are no phones but almost impossible to enforce unless the phones are out and visible in front of customers.

In regard to Walmart, Walmart is a mark-ass bitch company that won't let you discipline anyone lest it be perceived as targeting. From my "tenure" as a company, if you are a tech you pretty much have to commit assault & battery, incur a huge financial loss (fall prey to a register scam or incur inventory loss), steal, or fail a drug screen to get fired.

Not using a cell phone in the pharmacy is a bare-bones expectation. Take it outside if emergency or write up

As a tech right now I do look at my phone, but when I have a customer I put it down and help them. If I see a coworker on their phone and we are busy I'll say something snarky to them like " umm you wanna do what you get paid to do, or be on your phone". Or my pharmacist will ask them to get off the phone nicely.

I let my techs have their phones in the pharmacy or in their pockets. They don’t abuse it. If they on their phone to check Facebook or chatting away I do have a problem. I used to have one that was on the phone more than other, but he helped the customers right away when they came to the counter or drive thru. We are too busy now for them to be on their phone, they have 1 hour lunch to do that. When I pick up extra shifts I do see it at some stores where tech abuse phone usage at work. I have to tell them go help the customers, very annoying.

I would let my techs use their phones at work as long as they get their work done and it doesn't interfere with workflow. I don't think it would be professional to text in front of customers either.

At my pharmacy, I usually have Youtube and Twitch open in one screen while filling prescriptions on the other screen. So yeah, I don't make rules about cell phones. If you're with a customer, don't use your phone. After they are gone, do what you want.

As long as it doesn’t interfere with their ability to do their job, who cares? And as long as it’s on silent too. That’s my biggest pet peeve. I don’t care how slow we are, I hate hearing other people’s phones go off.
