Heard less complains about saturated job market recently. Is it because pharmacy business is getting better as the general economy is back on track? Or just ppl are getting used of the cruel reality?

My Chinese pal once told me 'pharmacist' is not even a proper profession in his homeland, meaning not much respect. That has to tell you something.

Ya, my dad visits mostly Asian docs and it would seem like the majority of them hand out their own medications if that isn't some indication of how things work in China. I'll have to make a note to ask him how they do it over there.

Definitely getting worse. Loads of students interviewing for a few spots. Pharmacy layoffs in my area by a big grocery chain. We need the economy to turn around, Obamacare to take effect, and schools to quit pumping out so many grads.

Only reason pharmacists make big money here in the US is because of the multi-billion dollar drug industry. In reality, the job is just like being a shopkeeper or secretary/stockroom manager.

Who checks drug interactions and keeps people from dying. You know, like what they do at Payless

Well. Paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare professionals save lives. Why can't they get 100K/yr.?

Actually nurses can make over 100/yr depending on the position and if they have a masters or not. Also understand that a paramedic is a 2-4 year degree. Pharmacy is a 6-8 year degree. There has to be an incentive to get that job instead of the paramedic, nurse, etc. and retail will pay more to make sure their product goes out with a seal of approval saying the patient will be safe

And the job is different in what it does. I don't like blood or emergency procedures. I like checking drug interactions and making sure long-term my patients are doing fine. So that is a difference in the job itself.

Just being honest with you. The explosion of the drug market in the past 15 years has correlated with the explosion in pharmacist salaries along with the requirement of the PharmD (6 yrs as opposed to 5 year bachelors). It's no surprise that major stores took advatage of the money and needed to pull in pharmacists to get this money.

So doctors wouldn't get paid more if there was an explosion in medical procedures done? That's the same correlation. Insurance agents wouldn't get paid more if the government made it mandatory to get flood insurance/renters/umbrella insurance? How about bankers or computer science majors? A lot of jobs if there was a sudden explosion would get paid more and more jobs would open up.

Regardless though, there is a service provided and a price paid for the service. You can't really compare apples to oranges with the professions. Why aren't pharmacists making more money than football players since we save more lives?

Pre-pharmers are very knowledgable on this topic. Even more so than pharmacists. You should be a scholar.

Epic failure on sarcasm. I wonder if that was why you got banned.

Yeah I know, he decided to go for the low blow rather than contend with the point. Was it the best point to make? Not really, several people here could have easily argued it. But oh well.

Trollin' ain't easy
