Is there a big difference between 2.9 GPA and 3.0 overall GPA?

I'm sure it would help, but I can't imagine it making that much of a difference since you'd still be compared to other students on the wait-list and application pool who may or may not have a higher GPA than you.

Yes it's a big difference in that some schools automatically discard your application if you do not have atleast a 3.0
That's not true of all schools, but a good amount I think.
