If First Aid if the "bible" for Step 1, is the an analogous book for Step 2?
It depends on whether your goal is to simply pass, or to do as well as possible (i.e, to strengthen your application or make up for a lower step 1 score)
To pass, many of my classmates simply utilized either First Aid or Step Up (w/ DIT) and UW CK.
From my experience, Step 2 is best approached using at least 2 primary resources, time permitting.
I needed to do better than on Step 1, and was surprised to have score above the 250's on step 2 CK doing the following:
- 3 months prep time (studied during medicine, psych, and neuro rotations) - we had weekends off, and my psych and neuro rotations were very chill (typically get home before 4:30pm)
- note: I play all videos at 1.7x to 2x - pause to annotate for DIT (painfully slow, but helps with quick review)
- Kaplan step 2 lecture videos / lecture notes (would watch / listen during commutes or read a section, but not both...just needed to get through the material)
- DIT Step 2 with Step up to Step 2 (does not cover enough info alone in my opinion)
- reviewed various chapters in First Aid Step 1 for physiology / pharm / biostat
- strengthened weak areas with First Aid Step 2
- UW Step 2 - 2 passes, 2nd pass for mistakes
For CS portion, First Aid Step 2 CS was helpful for me. I wrote down the basic list of DDX / interview questions / organ systems for various CC's / presentations, and reviewed it several times.
Best wishes to your study prep!
