hey peeps,

i'm a prospective dental school applicant who also has a passion for learning pharmacy.
unfortunately, i can't do both a pharm d and dds, but at some point in my career i'd love to learn about pharmacy, phamacogenomics, kinetics etc at an academic level,

how, if i go into dentistry, would i be able to do this?

i'm also considering dds/phd if that helps because i love research.
I'd like to use my dds/phd degree to practice dentistry and also go into teaching academia.

thanks

DDS/PhD is the way. Do a PhD in pharmacology. Specialize in academic dental anesthesiology. Lots of pharm there.

DDS/PhD will be minimum 7-8 years. Why not do dental anesthesia? 4 years dental and 3 years DA. Perfect combo of pharmacy and hands on. For future reference, don't start a new thread of an existing question.

A lot of DDS/PhD programs involve the PhD to be in oral biology, cariology, and other heavily involved dental aspects rather than a pharmacology emphasis. This I not to say that pharm is not an option, but it is less likely that you will be allowed pursue a pharm PhD in conjunction with your DDS.

Lol, i'm sorry. I'm getting a little overwhelmed by all the threads i'm starting (my fault, entirely) how do i delete?

It's called D2 year at many schools. Pharmacology + dentistry.

It really sounds like you just need to do pharmacy school. I see you being much more excited about it than dentistry. A PhD is a very focused degree and I don't think it will give you the education you're looking for.
