I was wondering if there is an actual official pediatrics shelf. My medschool offers their own exam instead of the NBME. So I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to study case files and pre-test. I think case files might help me work during the clerkship? Or do you guys have better suggestions what I should read to gain general knowledge (besides their big textbooks they recommend). We have these 'cases' we go through online, and most of the questions come from these cases, but the cases do not cover all questions on the exam. Thanks.

There is an official NBME shelf. I took it last year.

I used pretest and the review book used by myself and most of my classmates was Peds Blueprints.

It exists and it is pretty tough actually.

I used U World which was pretty good.

If you as a med student have time to go through the big textbooks like Nelson's or whatever, then bravo. But casefiles has never steered me wrong for any shelf. Prestest was also solid for peds. Read about your patients and you will do well!

Kaplan is also excellent for shelves. I'm pretty sure there is some sketchy stuff going on there. A lot of the questions are almost word for word. So I used that right before the shelf too.

Especially use Kaplan (also known as Pastana review - basically same questions as Pastana teaches for Kaplan). He is definitely asking his students what was on the shelf. Like 25% of my questions were WORD FOR WORD.

Thanks. But I'll pick up a copy of casefiles. I'll have to check, but I think for some reason my school doesn't give the NBME peds shelf.

You betcha. I used First Aid for Peds, Pretest, and Kaplan qbook.

Are we talking about Kaplan qbook from their Step 2 books, or Kaplan qbank for Step 2?
