I can finish my masters this semester, or I can drop a class and take a more important class next semester to finish my degree. Is it more advantageous to finish my masters in 1 year (leaving me with a gap year... but showing i can handle more courses at once) or dropping this one course that hasnt started yet and doing a more difficult and more important course next fall to finish out my masters?

If you're finished with your masters this semester, you'll be able to apply with it completed, which I think will look better than it being in progress (not a negative if it is in progress though); of course the course load thing is a added benefit as well, assuming you also do well grade-wise. What I'm more interested in is what this more important course is, and why is it more important?

Another benefit of having it done is like you mentioned, having a gap year. You'll be able to do all kinds of things beyond studying. 🙂 I think getting it finished is a win-win situation.

in terms of money, the answer to the first part of your question is yes

Either way, finishing early saves you money, I would do that.

Good luck!

I have a gap year this year after finishing my Masters in a year. Use your M.S. and teach at a community college. EASSSSY money(not that much money but what the hey) and you can use it as a topic to talk about during interviews. Worked for me =D

OMG amazaing idea lol. Hopefully that works... lol.

There's no real benefit to finishing in a year. Take the extra semester and take that hard class. That's what I did with Dental Physio. Admissions was like why are you taking this class since you'll be mid application during the course and I told them I wanted to challenge myself. To show not only the committee but, more importantly, myself that I belong in dental school. I think that line really sold it haha. Anyways, I think taking a more difficult class will help you in the long run and you'll still have a full semester off before dental school starts for you to go on vacation/work/etc.

That's just my humble opinion 🙂
