I am currently in OSU...but I am waitlisted at UNC and there is still a very real possibility i could get in there according to talking to the dean. I graduated from UNC and so i am very familiar with that area. UNC vs. OSU is my question and its a hard decision for me. I want to eventually live and pratice in the southeast. My question is is that if i go to UNC will I have better chances of getting a residency in the southeast compared to if I go to OSU....or does it make any difference which school I go to???

There is a regional bias in the Match, which means that it's "easier" to get into a residency in the Southeast if you graduate from UNC. However, once you finish residency, you can practice wherever you want (for instance, there's a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon in Austin who trained at Michigan for med school, residency, and fellowship). So you don't have to do your residency in the SE if you ultimately want to practice there.

Don't sweat it, man. You're in great shape. OSU is a really good school.

I know that you can practice wherever in the country you want despite where you went to med school. BUT I would rather get a residency in the south rather than stay in ohio or go up north. So, would I have a better chance of getting a residency in the south if I went to UNC vs. OSU? anyone have any idea if there actually is a regional bias in the match?

Yes. Where you go to school makes it a ton easier for you to geta residency spot in that area. Also, if you do residency in a spot it makes it a ton easier for you to practice there because you do make contacts being in the area for 5 years.
