Is there any point to checking the portals?

I was checking all the portals everyday, but I'm not sure there's any point in doing so. If I keep an eye on my spam, I won't miss anything, will I?

I check like every week. I've never had a school not email me, but if there was some sort of transmission error its good to check occasionally to make sure you don't miss something

UT-Southwestern offered me an II, which I didn't see for two weeks because I never received an email and did not check the portal. So it could happen.

Yes, check your portal! I randomly checked mine one day and there was an “interview” tab that showed up. Who knows how long it’s been there? I never received an email or anything. I even checked the “communications” tab and they didn’t send any emails.

Most of the time it probably makes no difference. But there is always that small chance it might. Is spending 5 minutes checking all your portals every week or so really that much of a hassle? What else are you even doing once your apps are submitted?

SDN always has a rare case of someone who missed their II and saw it on a portal weeks or months later...

I had an issue where payment was processed for some reason. I did not notice until December that I was still incomplete. Called the school and got an II the next day. Got wait-listed there. I'll always be left wondering what if I noticed sooner?

I was not able to get an interview date until March.

People are talking about getting the IIs through the portal without an email, but remember last year? A bug gave people the interview portal by mistake, so people signed up for interviews and the Dean of Admissions or whoever got salty even though it was their fault?

That happened to Oakland University this cycle. People already booked their flights and hotel then the offers were rescinded the next day.

I think someone just passed around the portal invite link for Einstein, and it was not secure so people who were not offered interviews were able to sign up for dates.

If you don't mind, what school was that?
I am not the person who discovered an II. I'm just disappointed that I didn't! I think you're looking for @veggiemed

Edit: Who is apparently on top of it and already beat me to it!
