It would not make sense to automatically think about enrolling a SMP without even taking your DAT. That's like saying I want to enroll a SMP without even TRYING to apply. How would you know your chances are without applying? The only time you should consider a SMP is whenever you applied to several dental schools, and you were rejected from ALL.
Like the other person has stated, my gpa is REALLY low, and there is no way i can significantly raise it by next year (when i graduate).
If i did think i had somewhat of a chance, i wouldn't bother doing a SMP.
