Is there anyone on this forum that actually likes being a pharmacist?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The problem with this approach is that they're not trying to fix the problem but just cover it up until it goes away... if no one takes real action, it won't be fixed. Be competitive? how else do you become more competitive than a doctorate degree? join 50 organizations? become officers? dean's list? MBA? what other medical profession pushes these unrealistic accomplishment on ALL students?

Only way to solve this problem is to shut down schools. Get rid of or take control of PBMs. Stop monopolization of pharmacies and related entities. This can greatly benefit pharmacists and patients. Do you know who won't benefit? Schools, chain pharmacies and these useless organizations such as apha.

i agree, under the current regime, the only losers here are the pharmacists..... everyone else is cashing in as we drown.....

most of us here are working for companies (or managing) them....and they are having a terrible time turning a profit. you cant be happy when you work for (or run) failing operations.....

Failing?

Yes and no. When the day goes by smooth, it is good. When the day doesn't, it sucks. Being at an indie, I need to keep an eye out on the owners trying to do something fishy to make money and harming us in the process. While I'm not the PIC, if there is some fraud in the background and the pharmacy is caught in trouble, does all the pharmacist staff get in trouble as well?

Fraud can lead to license renewal issues and/jail time. Be careful.

Most Indies do something shady. Filling iffy scripts; not reversing claims, waiving copays etc. Every time I deny any script, it gets filled at “friendly neighborhood” store.

I guess it’s human nature. When every dollar goes/ comes out of your own wallet, you would be tempered to make these decisions.

Waiving copay can be a federal crime on medicaid/medicare. On private insurances, they'll cancel your contracts and put you on black list not to grant you contracts. Not sure how MOST indies, there are more than 20,000 of them which give way more buying power than any chain as a group, could get away with these frivolous accusations?

I've worked for a shaddy pharmacy. I didn't know what we were doing could get us in trouble in the beginning but once i realized it's boarder line illegal, I left. As long as you're not directly and knowingly involved, you won't get in trouble. I was called in to testify on the owners when they sued each other. They were dumb enough to sue each other for their own wrong doings thinking that they'll take each other's money but feds ended up investigating deeper into their practice and both got jail time. lol.

So... if you know something fishy is going on, and you clearly know it's wrong since you just admitted lol, you may want to bolt before they raid your pharmacy lol

And yes, they know youre doing something fishy. They're just waiting for the opportune moment. lol or at least that's what I was told. They were actually investigating my old pharmacy but weren't going to do anything until later. The stupid owners suing each other gave them better incentives to fauq it up.

At least it is limited right now to pretty much billing 1 ndc and giving another ndc because of how stupid some otcs are. It is something that was commonly done even at Walgreens for stuff like vitamins but it urks me a little because I wonder if it causes audits. Some stuff just makes no sense so I wondered about it. Like True Metrix test strips, doctors write for 100, they bill for the 100 but dispense 2 boxes of 50's because for whatever reason, a box of 100 is $51 while a box of 50 is $6.80 and insurance only pays $17~ for the 100. It used to be something I saw often in walgreens too due to stock. Like 6 boxes of 100's, we only have 2-3 in stock so we gave a mix of 100's and 50's.

It’s a combination of these factors. And when it’s employee run business, of course owner would be more careful.

Pharmacies that are run by owner himself do this shady stuff from time to time.

dude if you get wrapped up in ANY kind of governmental fraud issues, you may never work again.....thats literally a question on EVERY application.....dont chance it......just split, find some thing else fast......it could end your career (i use the word career lightly of course...lol) but your ability to EVER work again in pharmacy....

I enjoy my job and enjoy being a RPh - have a very fulfilling job with a good schedule (for me) nights 7 on 7 off - great pay - and work on a great team. That being said - if I had to work retail, I would hate my job. Also I would never recommend the profession to somebody who hasn't started pharm school mainly because of the job market - you have to take too much debt in order to graduate in an uncertain time.
