ok, so i am going to be a high school junior this year and i am looking for
scholarships for college. my upward bound advisor has told me that certian collages offer scholarships for certian majors and i wanted to see if the university of minnesota offers any for pre vet people this early on. the reason i say u of m is because i know that is the college i want to go to for vet school. if there are any other scholarships like that please let me know asap! thankyou!😀😍

I'm sure you'll try this, but I would contact the university itself. I also don't know if they will have anything for you if you attend a different university.

You also might want to talk to someone at U of M about their "FASTrac" program (its called that or something similar) which is for pre-vets who want to go to that school ... they'll get you through undergrad more quickly and with proper GPA and test scores, I think you have better chances of being accepted.

That is all I remember from when I applied there (a whole FIVE years ago!). I got my fin aid package AFTER I applied, and from my experience, I was always offered more from private schools than public ones. Just my personal experience.

I don't know about scholarships at the U of MN for pre-vets (since I went elsewhere for undergrad), but here's information about the VetFAST program:

i would have applied for the vet fast program, but it is for students intersted in food animal medicine, which i have absolute no interst in. i wish they made some thing like that for students that what to work in the large and small animal department. dang!

I was actually on the U of MN CVM campus today for one of their tours/visit sessions, and the director of admissions mentioned that going to the U of MN for undergrad could help you to make some connections in the vet school at the very least, even if you didn't go into the VetFAST program. As you're looking for scholarships to college, I'd suggest you look beyond just a "pre-vet" field or major; see if there are biology/chemistry scholarships as well, or general academic ones. I went to the U of MN, but not the Twin Cities campus (go Morris!), and most of the scholarships I got were based on academic performance rather than on my particular field of study; also, many places award scholarships for later years in college rather than just to incoming freshmen.

Don't forget to consider going somewhere where you will have shadowing/vet experience opportunities as well, and somewhere where you can form solid relationships with faculty who can write you recommendations when the time comes--I would argue that those characteristics are more important than being on the (huge) U of MN campus from the beginning. So is gaining some non-vet life experience. I went into college an undecided major, studied German, chemistry, and ceramics, and now I've finished my pre-vet coursework, but I enjoyed getting the opportunity to explore other disciplines rather than being single-minded all through undergrad. That being said, to each their own. Good luck with whatever you decide!

don't worry, i have kept a very strong relationship with the vet i job shadow with. plus i have goten to job shadow the vet that comes to the stable i ride at. the only thing that i absolutly could not do is my undergrad (no offense) only because it is so far from home and the price jump between a 2 yr college (i will be getting my 4 year at 2 diffrent schools) is way high. plus when i am doing my 4 year (for my 4yr degree) i can stay at home for the 1st two and live with family the next two. so i am saving myself a lot of the expense. if only i could do that for the years i am at vet school! dang!
