I was hoping somebody could give me some advice/opinions. I graduated in 2003, started my residency, but unfortunately due to depression and some distractions ... I resigned. I have since then sought professional help for my depression and would like to reapply. The problem is I have taken time off - a year - dealing with my so called mental illness. How much does this hurt my chances of landing a residency position??

I don't think that you are alone. I personally know a few people that had to take time off for multiple reasons and they were still able to get back into programs.
