I am a Canadian applicant and want to apply to American dental schools. The problem that I have is that I used to be in undergrad business school which I did very poorly and got suspended. I later applied to a new undergrad 4 year program (chemistry) and got a 3.60 GPA. Do I have a chance in American dental schools? Do they count my old marks in business school?

My overall is 3.60 and my science GPA is 3.59. Thats my Canadian GPA, without counting my old marks. If I add my old marks, my overall would be 3.38, but my science GPA would stay the same.

I strongly Believe so. They count all the courses you have taken at any post secondary institute.

At this point, we can't say for sure until you have a DAT score.
So far, odds are against you.

Canadians with 3.3s have ben accepted ShyanH. After all, everybody has to pay around 50 K for the tuition, Canadian or American .They all also had decent DAT scores. Schools also take into account that your are from Canada so your GPA is strong.Chill and good luck bro

But isn't GPA from canadian schools "inflated"?... or at least isn't that how US schools view them?

Last time i talked to a director of admission (a professional program) she said they usually add 0.1 to 0.2 GPA points to Canadian GPAs to equate it to an American one. so a 3.3 Canadian is atleast a 3.4 American.

I have seen that before, but u see those numbers are just generalizing the system. I have taking Psych classes where 95 was A and 98 was an A+, i have also taken Ochem classes where 81 was an A-. Depends on the class and the prof. In Biochemistry, 86 is usually an A...but how you get that 86 is different from school to school.... Same applies to US, Not all universities in US have a cut off of 90 for an A.....and depends on university. I can go to an easy university in canada where exams are much easier= A and A- in every class or i can go to a State (we call it province here) university with 30,000 students where it is extremely hard to get an A because the department wont approve the marks if you have more than 20% A's in class
