Hi, I am attending a university in Illinois in hopes of becoming a pharmacist. My problem is that (ratemyprofessor.com - very useful) and about twenty friends of mine have told me "Dr. Chu is the worst.. His lectures and tests are nothing comparable." Dr. Chu is currently the only teacher lecturing General Physics, what SIUE requires. However, Dr. Boley is a great teacher. I have had him before. He is well-known, very understanding and I enjoy going to his class. He is teaching Applied Physics. I am positive I will get a good great in Dr. Boley's class but Dr. Chu told the class he's only going to give out five As. Yikes! Is there really a huge difference? Will schools even take Applied as a pre-req? All advice is appreciated! 😳

i wouldn't think it would make a difference (i'm taking elements of physics), but contact the schools you are planning on applying to and ask them directly.

agree w/ skp, email/call the school. Also their website might have a thing that shows what specific classes from the school you attend will satisfy the pre-req's, and if your applied physics isn't listed it may be a problem. I know how you feel though, I had a Calc II teacher that was horrible. He couldn't speak english well enough to finish a lot of his sentances. He would say something, then try to explain the concept in another way to get us to learn it but he wouldn't know what words to use so he would just pause and move on to whatever was next. I didn't learn anything in the class because it was so bad.

It seems all my professors can't speak English! It's soo mindboggling! 😱

The nice thing about classes like physics, calculus and all other math based sciences is that most lecturers just go over the examples in the book. So if you're having a difficult time understanding what's going on, bring your book along.

I ended up not even attending classes for all my physics classes and just doing the homework on my own. We had weekly quizes on Fridays which I was forced to wake up for though. =)

This was 3 quarters of physics - mech, e&m, and optics and waves.

Not a bad deal.

I wonder if they would accept "Hint of physics I"

I Can't Believe it's Not Physics
I Can't Believe it's Not Physics II: Revenge of the Capacitor

And ratemyprofessors.com is the best website for helping plan undergrad courses! Well, at least for planning instructors for undergrad courses 🙂

I love rate my professors. I like to read the ratings for the evil professors
