Let me start off by saying that first aid is great for what it is (a database of need to know information).

But...

I absolutely hate the formatting. No matter how hard I try I cannot seem to become comfortable with how it is formatted. I just would not take notes that way. This creates problems when I'm trying to force some of this knowledge (esp factoids) into long term memory.

Some of it is okay but I'm seriously considering "reformating" the information in certain sections of first aid (ie typing it out how I want it) so that it is easier to commit to memory. I'm thinking about making my own personally formatted version of first aid based on First Aid. Lots of typing for sure.

Thoughts / Suggestions?

If you have the time, knock yourself out. Typing it out will probably also help you memorize it.

Or just read FA 7-8 times and get used to it?

I wouldn't just be typing it out. I would be organizing it to my specifications, adding explanations/images, and printing it. I have a very strict (procedurally speaking) study system which works for me. Furthermore any images would be included since I scanned all of the images from first aid.

Did anyone out there make your own notes that you studied from using first aid as a "syllabus" to guide you? Alternatively, did anyone just not use first aid?

I'm concerned with breaking the "must use and annotate first aid" mantra here on SDN
