I took cell bio course.
Just got my grade back. It was a B minus.
Is this bad?
I am trying to apply to med school soon
I have to take mcat.

A B- isn't a terrible grade, but it isn't all that great either. Your end goal should be to get a 3.5 science GPA and a 3.6 overall GPA, as these are the averages for people that are accepted into medical school.

Your GPA matters much more than your grade in any single course, so don't worry too much about this. Just shoot for A grades in your next set of classes.

if that's reflective of every one of your grades, it's not going to get you into medical school.

If it's just one course, then it's definitely not lethal.

I got in with 3 Cs and an F. I'd say you're still in good shape so long as your GPA is 3.5+.
Congrats!!!

Do you mind me asking which schools you applied to? I'm trying to apply wisely when the time comes.

Once you get your mcat score and know your "applying" GPA, get the msar and use it to apply accordingly and broadly. Also you can get people's feedback on here. Adcoms don't look at individual grades to make a decision, they look at your total sGPA/cGPA...

Just look at his MDApp.

lol I got a B- in orgo 2. just don't make it a habit, shoot for A's, and your GPA will be fine

It's all in my MDApps profile. The link is to the left. The list isn't completely up to date re: which schools I've interviewed at/withdrawn from/been rejected and whatnot, but all the schools I applied to are there. I'll update the list if I either get into my top choice, or if not then update the list in June sometime.

I know I can get into md school with a b- but the prof was a typical narcissistic white jerk. Always controlling things. Why are profs always white males? Is this how it is in med schools. Typical breakdown of society. The enemy is always in the position of power. That's why minorities never have anything. Smh

You didn't get a B- because the professor was white and/or racist: You got it because you didn't prepare well enough for your exams. I hope you don't use this as an excuse in the future. Blaming others for your mistakes never reflects well on you.

Yes, many of your med school professors will be white, and if you treat them as "the enemy," you aren't going to to do very well.

I've had pretty much professors from every race and never had a problem. The grade I got was totally dependent on my work. Sure we all get frustrated because of the way some professors grade or when professors are super hard compared to other. But this is not related to their race or yours. If you really think it's a racial issue report it 😛

White males are your enemy?

i think you are stressing out about this one grade too much. Focus on the overall GPA for sure!

What happened to freedom of speech. I can't get on here an discuss the truth. That's what I'm talking about. Typical

Freedom of speech means we can't call the cops and have you arrested for what you're saying. It doesn't entitle you to have people agree with you.

One B- isn't really a big deal. Just make sure you study hard and put in the effort to get A-'s and A's in the majority of your remaining science classes and you'll be fine.

Solid trolling OP
I don't think op is a troll. I think that he\she is just displacing his anger unwisely. To op: instead of blaming the professor or anyone else, find out where YOU went wrong by looking at your past exams and homework. With that being said, everything is relative so one B won't kill you!

OP is clearly trolling in the post I quoted. That or he's incredibly racist.

Lol a B is obviously not a bad grade, but remember what I said about everything gbeing relative: we are on a forum with a flock of neurotic, sleep deprived premeds. Actually, I got my first B in college in orgo 1 and I was pissed, but got over it 😀. We don't know op's story so it is better to as him/her why the racism in the post?

It doesn't matter how or why OP got a B. But being racist is unacceptable.

If we all want to get technical, OP wasn't being racist. Racism is an institutional phenomenon and is defined as bigotry+power. Since White people were always in a position of power, it is technically incorrect to use the word "racism". Instead, "prejudiced" is a better word, since it doesn't require a history of power and oppression. 😛

Sorry for the sociology derailing, haha.

I agree! I am not condoning racism in any form, but people may express anger in different ways. Further, maybe the professor acted unkindly to op in one instance and the op mistook for racism? Again, we don't know the whole story. By the way, I am south asian going to a school in Alabama so I have had first hand experiences with racism. 😉
