I was complete at DMU a week ago Wednesday, and when I called the lady said that the admissions committee still had my folder. Is it a bad sign if they still have it, and have not yet made a decision? Logic would say yes; I am thinking that the decision to offer an interview is made fairly quick.

i would think it would be the other way around...like saying NO would be quicker...
On that note, are we pre-meds not THE most stressed out, anxiety-prone individuals on this planet? I think we are.

Don't worry until you get rejected!
They can't interview EVERYbody in September & October!

Yes I absolutely think that we are (especially when we are taking 17 credits of 500 and 600 level Biomedical science classes and working 20 hours/week).
And to answer Orthodoc, I agree they can't interview everyone on Sept. and Oct., but I hope to have an acceptance somewhere by the end of Oct. (I interview at COMP on 9/25 and KCUMB 9/28). These two schools and DMU are the only schools that I have submitted a secondary to.

I'm just saying No, it isn't a bad sign.
It's too early for it to be a bad sign.
I hope you get your acceptance by the end of October like you want, and it looks like you're on your way, but if you don't get it until December, I'm sure it will be just as sweet, won't it??! :luck:

Absolutely!! I appreciate the advice, and I took no offense to what you said.

That's good. It was only well intended and I understand your hope to know you're going somewhere soon, believe me!!

My advice: try and not overanalyze every tiny detail. I know it's difficult sometimes not to, but you're honestly doing yourself a disservice. Also, setting deadlines on when you'll have an acceptance also doesn't help too much. I'm sure everything will work out fine for you, but it's just an added disappointment if things don't work out EXACTLY how you wanted them to.

Life is stressful enough as it is, and there really is no reason to compound that stress. Medical school will be twice as stressful and time consuming as your life now, so enjoy what you're doing each and everyday, rather than always looking forward to the next thing. Believe me, I have to constantly remind myself of this is well, so it's not like I have it all figured out.

Good luck.

The longer eyeballs remain on your app, the better the chance you get an interview. A delay in making a decision is whether to invite or not. Rejections pre-interview don't take nearly as long.

along those lines... i know that completed applications can be invited for an interview, put on hold or rejected. but are the interviews further divided (like good, better, best) where the best get the first interviews and the good get later ones?

Most schools have a rolling admissions process. So the sooner you get everything in, the sooner they can check you out. Of all the ones they have at a certain point, I think it would be pretty logical to assume that they invite the best applicants and on down the line. Either way, would it really matter?

Just get your apps in as soon as possible and hope for the best. That's all you can do.
