I am a URM, African American female. Hair is a big thing in the African-American community. Over the summer my friends and I decided to braid/style hair for girls who could not afford to get their hair done. I wasn't really "counting hours", but each style took between 30 minutes-2 hours and my friends and I reached about 50 girls, over 3 months. Not a lot.
I live in a suburb of Detroit, and I always felt bad for the little girls who felt like they weren't pretty because they didn't have their hair done. Braids can cost up to $200.
After I finished the girls hair I then recommended them to my aunt who runs a church based self esteem empowerment group for girls. I also helped her with that, about 100 hours, and I hope to continue. I know some might not understand the "black girl's hair struggle", should I include this as an EC?
