Hello and thank you for your time,

Without going into much detail, my school offered a design course (engineering program) where six students will work under a professor and graduate student working on research. The undergrad students did numerical simulations and ran code for various analysis. The professor and graduate student published the paper the following year but with only the two as authors.

Since I was not listed on the paper, would it be possible to list the year long work as research in the common application? I can speak about the research if asked and the student portion of the course work involved a 300 page paper that was used as our grade for the course.

As long as it was hypothesis driven research, course or no courses, publication or no publication, this counts as research.

Yeah it was answering an engineering efficiency question. Very limited readership, but important journal.

Just so I understand, it is okay for me to list it in my application even though it was published without my name on the paper?

No applicant is expected to publish. Publication is a difficult task even for a graduate student or post doctoral student. Nevermind an undergraduate student.

Oh thank you. I was very worried I didn't have anything to show for critical thinking in research. The good news is that the professor did published so it is completed work.
