The class is "Public Health Microbiology" and is listed under the Public Health department at my school.

Description: Introduction to properties of microorganisms; their relationships with humans in causing infectious diseases and in maintaining health. With 162L, satisfies most requirements for a laboratory course in microbiology. May be taken without 162L.

I know Public Health isn't factored into the BCPM gpa, but the title does say Microbiology..

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Bear!!!

And idk, no based on the title but yes based on the description. You could list it as science and if amcas disagrees they will change it. But let's see what others say (hopefully some adcoms can chime in).

You could try to get it classified as BIOL (biology) but it might come back as HEAL (health). No harm is trying.

To be fair and honest, the course doesn't teach you on a biological basis; the focus is more on memorizing the types of infectious diseases and their outcomes in the clinical context. You would be cheating yourself if you count that towards BCPM gpa. There is MCB microbiology which would be more fitting to count towards BCPM gpa.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

@youmed I was also considering microbiology in the MCB department, but unfortunately I can't fit it in my schedule this fall. Are there any other upper-division MCB courses you would recommend? IB major here.

I heard MCB C114 Introduction to Comparative Virology is very interesting, yet challenging. All upper-division MCB courses will be challenging so you can pick and choose the one you want to pursue for deeper understanding. MCB 150 Molecular Immunology is very interesting too.
