Title

I looked at some other threads about this.

Do they count as patients to be smelled?

Also, does anyone have experience with this? Will it be safe? Do you think it will be mostly spoiled rich kids or more hardcore people?

Are they patients? You will certainly be close enough to them if they are. Are there doctor's orders dictating what happens to them when they are there?

It could be a very interesting (different) experience, particularly if you are interested in behavioral health, psychiatry, addiction, etc.

I was a psych tech on a forensic unit for almost two years and loved it. You're going to have some great patient interactions.

That being said, there is a chance you'll feel unsafe here and there. I was never luckily never injured IN PART because I 1) treated my patients well, 2) am a petite young woman so I don't have a very threatening demeanor, and 3) had awesome coworkers, but I definitely had coworkers who were injured. So just make sure you're working with people who are willing to work together to ensure everyone's safety.

I currently work in the drug abuse / rehab unit of a community mental health center. I'd say this job sounds like clinical experience, the degree of importance would be in line with your work duties. Would you be mainly transporting patients from place to place? Would you have any role in assessment, or treatment of the patients? This sounds like an inpatient facility so I'd imagine there's a variety of roles available.

I've massively enjoyed my time in substance abuse. I've found that the clientele varies drastically depending on the type of facility. There are some rehabs that seem to mostly accept patients with private insurance, catering more to wealthy individuals. And then there's places, where I work, that are state funded and a type of "treatment of last resort" for the uninsured. It's a rough crowd, but you grow a thick skin pretty quickly, and IMO, it's amazing patient care experience. You're working with people who have gotten a cold shoulder at many other places. I've felt very safe the entire time, save for one occasion where I assessed a patient who was psychotic and thought I was an FBI agent...even then, everything was totally fine!

I would be a "residential counselor" in a treatment facility and would be guiding/assisting patients to various programs/activities and providing companionship to them.

I believe it's an inpatient facility.

Thanks for your advice guys
