Hi all,

Question: I shadowed a physician at a neurology clinic. Also, I roomed patients, took their weight and height. (120 hours ish each). While I understand shadowing is passive experience, how is the latter viewed by admissions? It seems very basic (nothing like being a CNA, phlebotomist, etc), but I'm sure it has to count for something?
Getting ready to reapply and I think clinical experience was lacking from my app, so I am hoping this can suffice as I have learned a lot from it.

I think this is pretty much just shadowing if what you did was guide patients to rooms and take measurements.

cant think of what alternative role this could be...

you were lucky to have a physician who gave you a more engaging experience

Interacting with current patients in a helpful way would be considered active clinical experience. Hopefully, you chatted with them as well and have a few stories to tell.

As you can tell from the first two responses, it is somewhat equivocal. Is it technically clinical work? yes. Would I build my entire resume around it? No.
