Ok so I transferred from a California JC to a UC with a 3.3 gpa. I took phys chem ochem and bio at my jc and got a few B's and C's. I'm currently in my 2nd year at UC Davis (started summer 2013) and have a 3.95 overall gpa. My major is biochemistry and molecular biology. I'm hoping to keep my gpa above a 3.9 by the time I graduate. The reason why I didnt do as well at CC is because I was working a lot of hours in order to help parents out with the rent
As far as extra curriculars go... I've been volunteering at a student-run clinic for 1 year and have shadowed doctors. I'm currently doing research in a biochem lab. I've volunteered at my local hospital and hospice as well. I'm also the VP of the chemistry club. I'm planning on completing an internship at my UC's hospital pretty soon. My plan after I graduate is to take a gap year so that I can add on a bit more ec's as well as study for the mcat.
I'm just worried about my overall gpa. My overall gpa (CC + UC GPA), in the end will be around a 3.5-3.6 since I took 102 semester units at my JC before transferring.. Is this enough of an upward trend? I'm mainly looking at low/mid-tier med schools, some UC schools, and DO schools.
