I'm looking at taking Organic Chemistry at UIC this summer. Now, it says on their website http://www.uic.edu/ucat/courses/CHEM that the class, without the lab but with discussion, is "4 hours". Does this mean credit hours? The lab is listed as "1 hour". The reason why I find this funny is that Organic Chemistry at my previous school, without lab but with discussion, is 3 credit hours.

Would AACOMAS change it to 3 hours, and 1 hour with lab? What about AAMCAS? Anyone have any idea?

Some of the courses listed in that link are "6 hours". So, I think this is the whole semester hours vs credit hours thing.

I forget which is which, but I'm sure someone on here will know.

usually class is 4 hours, lab 1. Usually.
But, do you get credit for 4 hours? My other classes were 4 hours a week (including discussion), but they were still counted as 3 credit hours.

Thats just how UIC rolls. My alma mater was 4 semester hours per class, regardless of lab. My UIC class was 4 semester hours for discussion and one for lab. Don't worry about it.

But, does AAMC/AACOMAS change it? My concern is that I don't really want more weight being put towards the few classes I took at UIC (because they're 4 hours) than the ones I took elsewhere (same length, but they count as 3 credit hours, and I did very well in them).

It counted as 5 total hours (4 discussion, 1 lab) on both my AAMC and AACOMAS apps. UIC also doesn't have a +/- system, or at least the physics department doesn't, so you might only need to eek out an A- for a full A. I didn't take Ochem there (DePaul), so I can't comment on the class.

AACOMAS will not change the listed credit hours of your class. If you are taking a class that is 4 hours you need to list it as such and they will not change it. If you are asking because you need to repeat the Organic chemistry course and your previously taken course that you are retaking was 3 credit hours and your new one is 4 credit hours, then I do not know the correct answer to your problem. Your best bet would be to call them in this case or see if you can find it in their retake policy online.
