  1. Podiatry Student
Hey guys this is my first post. I was an environmental sciences masters student in NY and about a month ago came across the field of Podiatry. I am very interested in pursuing this as a career and have already submitted an application to Temple University. I just got a letter in the mail from them telling me to schedule an interview and it did for July 2nd. My situation is that I have not taken Organic Chemistry yet, but I have taken many other chemistry classes that I have taken for my environmental masters. I have already told the school this and they told me that they would still let me interview for this year's cycle. The Podiatrist that I just starting working with, who is on the Admissions board for the NY school told me that I on my interview I should tell them that I would take it the summer following my first year of Podiatry classes, that way by the time I am done with classes it would still be done. He wasn't sure if they would go for this idea, but do you guys think that it is worth a shot?

I have been told I may be offered a deferred acceptance for August 2008, but it seems like a waste of a year to just take organic chemistry.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

hey

if it is just organic chemsitry, you might have a chance (given your chemistry background). I say give it a shot, you never know... even if all you get is a deferred acceptance, take advantage of it. At least you are guaranteed a spot somewhere for next year and your future will have stability. In the meantime, don't make that extra year a waste... do some volunteer work, take more biology classes (as that is all you will be doing in pod school) and relax. If you do get accepted, jump for joy and work really hard next year. Anyhow, I think it is a win-win situation...goodluck

I think a lot is how the school itself would handle it. I think the whole reason for orgo chem is for biochemistry which is a first year course, so taking it AFTER first year would seem a little pointless. Hopefully the school will go with your idea. Can you take it somewhere over this summer? I know its getting kind of late to join a summer course...

Good Luck with everything and hope it works out.

Thanks for the responses already guys. I tried to register at just about every school within 30 miles of me. I was waitlisted on one but was told the class was then full a few days later. Now it is too late since they started last week..

I would say go for it and do the interview and see what they say. but in my opinion, I think letting someone take Ochem after the first year of Pod Med school seems kinda wrong. They're called "pre"-reqs for a reason.

Also, Biochem will be a lot easier to understand and learn if you have a good grasp in o-chem. I would suggest to try to take o-chem first because that will be advantageous for you.
