I'm signing up for freshman classes here in about a month and I was wondering which scenario is the most realistic. Take into account that I have taken Gen Chem 1 and 2 and other prereqs like College Trig and A&P:

Which would think would be the most doable?
Option 1-Biology 1&2, Orgo1&2, Calc 1&2, and an elective
Option 2-Biology 1&2, Orgo1&2, Physics 1&2, and an elective
Option 3-Biology 1&2, Orgo1&2, Physics 1&2, AND Calc 1&2

I plan on taking the DAT after sophmore year but would it be possible to take it after freshman year with option 2?
I would love to hear from someone who has taken all of the classes at once and would like to hear how difficult it is? Obviously I know it's going to be rough but how rough?

Depending on the school your DAT score will expire anywhere from 2-4 years after you take it. Not sure how many students run into this problem but I would check it out before you get too set on taking it that early (unless you are planning to apply around the end of sophmore year and are going to graduate early).

Just something for you to look into.

The wisdom on relying on chem ap may be questionable, not only because about one half of the school do not accept ap prerequisites, but also because the AP courses may be woefully inadequate prep for a course which requires a good foundation.

Personally I wouldnt even think about 3. I would probably pick 1 because physics at my school is easier than Calc. Also, i personally have not taken all BCP classes at once but one of my friends did. It didn't turn out well at all. He had to retake at least one of the classes and is probably retaking another one. Another piece of advice, chill out and enjoy your undergrad. You will meet some fantastic people and have some great experiences. Enjoy them.

Is this for 2 semesters? Do those classes include labs? Those options look to be about 20-24 credits.

What do you gain by taking the DAT in freshman/soph year?

Not having to worry about anything except getting good grades and volunteering for the rest of my undergrad. I think it would be really nice to get it out of the way early. I plan on graduating a year early so i could technically be considered a freshman now. Im doing PSEO my senior year of highschool.

I wouldn't do option 3. Especially since it sounds like it's gonna be your first year at a university. You may not know what classes are like at university. Might as well take it a little 'easier' your first year.

Why do you want to take all the classes in one year? thats going to be three labs which would be rough and those are all classes you want to do very well. My freshman year I took bio 1 and 2, gen chem 1 and 2 and then saved o chem till my soph year. I took the DAT early like you want to, right after my soph. year, and I found it very helpful that I just took O chem and didnt have to study as much for it. I ended up with a 23 on O chem so I think it worked out for me. Also you know physics isnt on the DAT right? I'm a junior and am finishing physics right now so theres no rush to take that class. Also look to take classes like Molecular cell biology or physiology. If you had to pick one i would say cell bio because I thought that stuff was more difficult to learn without the help of my professor, the phys stuff on the DAT I learned myself and am currently enrolled in the class now and its cake man, you can definitely teach yourself the physiology stuff, got any questions just ask. Also the DAT are good for 3 years, and if you take it the summer after your sophomore you'll be applying the summer after junior year so thats only one year.

I don't understand why people think that taking the DAT prematurely is going to lower their stress level. There is no reason to get stressed about a test you are taking in a couple years... Take the courses at a decent pace and don't rush. You gain absolutely nothing by taking the DAT an extra year or two early. Stop worrying and enjoy college. You aren't going to be studying for the DAT for two years, so that shouldn't affect you ability to join clubs and volunteer at all.

+1

I took the DAT the summer before my senior year and didn't really need to study. I reviewed stuff for a couple weeks and got down my timing. All of my DAT prep came from the classes I took. I took genetics, human anatomy, advanced physiology, ecology, evolution, cell bio, molecular biology, etc...

I admire your devotion... but do you have any idea how much effort these courses require? especially for a student whos fresh out of high school?

You are basically finishing up all your pre-reqs (or I should say pre-dat courses) in freshman year in whatever option you go with.... thats insane, and if you botch up, your going to wreck havoc on the science-GPA in the first year of college (not easily repairable)

Take it easy on your first year of college, Try to get Bio 1 and 2 done (along with labs) in freshman year, and Orgo 1 and 2 in sophomore year, then you can take the DAT in the summer period between sophomore and junior.... This is ofc assuming that the GC you've taken already satisfies the pre-requite requirement of dental schools.

All of these options are completly rediculous.
I suggest none of them unless you want to be in college for 2 years.
If I was you I would choose 1 of the 3 (bio/orgo/physics). I would suggest Bio. Or you cant ake orgo since many principles of gen chem are taken into orgo. So take that before you forget your principles.
Take your calc
And an elective
Thats it for your freshman year.
Sophmore year:
I did bio/physics and electives and it was tough. I would only do one if I was you. And then electives

Junior year:
The one you didnt choose of your sophmore year.
Electives. Upper divison bio's
Senior year:
Finish your electives and bios/bio labs

I would go with option one. However, I am hoping that you did not place out of general chemistry– that would be bad. You need to take a college general chemistry class. It is a pre-req and the actual course must be completed.

Also, why would you take your DAT so early? Are you aware that the scores expire in 3 years?

^ I agree.

You should also make an appointment with your pre-dent/pre-health advisor and talk to them about other options you haven't considered.
