I'm leaving my cc and going to a 4 year university next semester. I'm planning on taking orgo 1 + lab, physics 1+ lab, and genetics + lab.

I took Chem 1 + 2, bio 1 + 2, my math required for my major at my cc, and some electives.

Would this be a bad idea for a sophomore? Considering its my first semester at a 4 year?

Thanks

Might as well get used to it if you're serious about dental school... Physics and genetics are easy. OChem is your only hard class.

I think it's very manageable, but if you didn't already know science course at a University level takes much much more time and effort to get the desire grade you want. Don't take that comment as something to discourage you, I know you will do fine if you put in the time and hard work 🙂 Best of luck.

Jdog- I know dental school will be much harder than undergrad, but i'm worried about getting into dental school right now.

gladiator- I know classes at a university take much more effort, I didn't get discouraged. Thanks

If I finished orgo, gen chem, and gen bio, would that be good enough to take the dat? or would you guys suggest I take other bio classes?

The reason i'm asking is because I want to take the dat the summer after my sophomore year.

That's really rough IMO
Labs will suck up a lot of your time in the week. Although labs are in conjunction with the actual course, you may learn new things and you will get exams and lab reports to write. With that said, you're looking at a courseload of about ~5 science classes which is a lot for a sophomore especially coming from a CC. And the intensity of orgo and physics will surprise you.
Don't burn yourself out, take physics at your CC or take it when you're done with chemistry. Trust me.

Drop physics and take it your junior year once your used to real bio classes and chem. There will be a huge difference between your cc classes and a state university and you will need to adjust

Suarez- I've decided to only take orgo and genetics. I'll worry about physics after taking my dat at the end of sophomore year.

Dgeorg- I'll be going to a private university, but yeah I hope the transition isn't too bad.

What classes should I take before taking the dat? I've completed gen bio, gen chem, and will finish genetics and orgo. What should I take during my spring semester of sophomore year before taking the dat?

I myself think its manageable but coming from a cc college you might struggle.

You know best, depends on what classes you took in cc, how hard were they, hour did U do , in relation to your cc how hard is your university, ...

Take classes like physiology, cell biology, microbiology (the first 2 being most important). There is some ecology on the DAT, but there's nothing that you can't study on your own.

I can't take cell bio until junior year at my school. I could take physiology and microbiology, but i'm already planning on taking orgo 2 spring semester. So i could take physiology with orgo 2.

Honestly the only hard class is ochem you shouldn't be worried.
