Is it true that you can NOT apply to medical school if you have not graduated or not currently enrolled in a college?

I am taking classes like a normal senior this upcomming fall semester except my status is non degree seeking because I have not officially enrolled yet because of paperwork issues.

I will be a regualr student in the spring.

My pre-med councellor tells me i cant apply and i have to attend my undergraduate for an extra year. FYI: my undergrad school is COMPLETE BS 🙁

I will call schools monday but im semi freaking out 😳

Help please🙂 and thank you so much for reading 😍

No, you can apply without graduating or being currently enrolled, there's nothing that says you can't.

However, most schools like for you to have a degree by the time you matriculate or have taken at least 90 hours of credit

I seriously want to hug you 😍

thanks bunches 🙂

This is crap - you're being lied to.

Many non-trads apply to medical school having been out of college for years, so it's hardly unusual.

Hate to rain on your parade if this is the case, but I think less than 5% of students accepted last year that would not have had a Bachelor's by the time they would matriculate. Hope this isn't the case for you and that you will be graduating this upcoming Spring!

Good luck!

well most non-trads have already graduated so thats not exactly the same as OP

bur regardless i think as long as you graduate before you matriculate you'll be fine.

Where the heck are you going to school? That's ******ed-stupid! Sounds like the "school" a friend of mine went to, they told her she couldn't register for her spring classes until she had filled out her 2010-2011 FAFSA and indicated them as a school... Sounds like this person is either so stupid they don't know their head from a hole in the ground, or they are outright lying to you to try to get more $$

lol, thanks so much everyone 🙂

the school i'm attending is USF (south FL)

indeed, it is crap, from the profs to the advisors, lol

i will be able to become a traditional student in the spring and graduate in the summer of 2011

i swear this school is only trying to make $ 🙁

its super wierd b/c i transferred from an awesome 4-yr college, but it got too expensive. and USF usually only accepts people from commun.colleges. so they kept pushing my application, now they tell me about 'forms' that are missing, and that they are filled anyways.

i truly hate them, can NOT wait to leave 😀

thank you everyone so very much, much appreciated 🙂🙂🙂

I am truly sorry you're having this experience. I wonder how many people have only gone to school there and left with this same bad taste in their mouth... Probably thinking that every school is that way... That sucks...

Wow. I was under the impression that more college juniors (in coming seniors) are applying than college seniors (in coming gap years).

your pre-med counselor needs to go to pre-med counseling classes....and be smacked. yes, you can apply to your hearts content.

lol....agreed, still can NOT comprehend how horrible the advisors are allowed to be at my school, can't wait to leaveeee😀 thanks so much everyoneee!!! 😍

Mine was terrible also.

NO and NO

"My pre-med councellor tells me i cant apply and i have to attend my undergraduate for an extra year. FYI: my undergrad school is COMPLETE BS"

Suggestion: get a new pre-med advisor, STAT!

I think it makes more sense since a lot of people (including me) don't want to wait an extra year to go to medical school. 🙂

our stupid school has one stupid adviser 🙁

YAAAY for SDN, would be SOOO lost without it😍
