Disclaimer***::: This post in no way is disparaging to Emory or Grady site experiences itself. I.E. NO issues with faculty, staff, or learning experience.

My question is, is this typical?

Emory away rotations have a bunch of hidden fees that are REQUIRED if rotating at Grady hospital or affiliated sites. These are not presented to you until within a month of the time you are about to start. The sites themselves are excellent as you might expect, however there are required payments and trainings that are last minute. This is in the context of having all VSAS “requirements” completed months and months ahead of time.

Costs:
1. 80 dollar UDS and Background check through a specific grady company, Advantage Students.
2. 50 dollar application fee for grady health systems
3. 260 dollar visiting student tuition

Not to mention the “training.” 3 Total hours of training or so for random requirements.

Application fee and proprietary background check are par for the course; $50 app fee is lower than mine were. I never had to pay tuition for an away rotation though.

The EMR trainings are brutal especially since as a visiting student you hardly use it, but everyone's gotta do it.
