Is this Unethical?

not really unethical if she did help do editing. And I would hope that any Adcom member would take publications done with daddy with a grain of salt.

Happens way more often than you would think. I'm only an undergrad and have done research for about three years (which is not much compared to most people) and have seen this happen a handful of times. Unfortunately, that is how the world works.

I just graduated from college and I currently do clinical research in a lab with a bunch of doctors. Anyways, the head of the lab's daughter is in college and will be applying to medical school soon. In order to beef up her research resume, my PI has essentially just placed her name on a number of studies/papers that we're working on. She's technically now involved in these studies, but because she's far away and in college... her involvement is limited to simply just making grammatical changes to the manuscripts.

In the grand scheme of things, I shouldn't care. At this early stage in my career, an extra name on a paper with mine, shouldn't mean much. Anyways, what do you guys think?
This just goes on to illustrate that life is unfair.

That is one of the reasons that I really dislike group work at times. Hang in there. 🙂
