Hey guys, I’m a 21-year-old junior that’s still in undergrad with around a year and a half left to go, and I recently checked my AMCAS CGPA, and it looks like it’s around a 3.0–3.1, give or take. My science GPA is also around this range.

I had a really rough start to college due to a variety of issues that I won’t go into as much here, but I ended up taking Gen Chem 1 around three times, Pre-Calc twice, and English 2 twice. I managed to start turning things around during my sophomore year, and since then I’ve mainly gotten As for the past four semesters in courses like Gen Chem 2, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Calculus, etc. I’ve managed to get a 3.7+ gpa for three out of the four semesters, with one being a 4.0.

I was wondering if this would be considered an upward trend, and was also wondering about whether or not I’ll need to get a post-bacc after graduating to be competitive for DO schools and some mid-tier MD schools.

I have clinical experience as a home health aide, worked as a pharmacy tech, and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher. I plan to get additional clinical experience, research, and volunteering before graduating. I am also in the process of starting a student organization. The main thing I want to know about is the sufficiency or lack thereof of my upward trend. I’ve taken around 16 courses these past 4 semesters and have only received 4 Bs (orgo one and two physics and zoology).

Sorry if this post screams neurotic, but I’d really like feedback from actual people rather than ChatGPT 😭. Thanks if you read all this.

Welcome to the forums.
What have your prehealth advisors said?

Did you calculate your application GPA's? I want to make sure because many institutional GPA's only count your last course attempt; AACOMAS and AMCAS count all attempts. Give your GPA by year (fr/so/jr/sr) so we can see a "trend." Not by semester.

Also, which semesters have been your heaviest science semesters? What was your GPA for those terms?

If you have a pattern where your grades suffer as you add more activities, you need to prioritize. Also, I don't see any community service listed, and details (what you did) in all of your activities matter.
