Just wondering, if you were responsible for a group of students, in a "peer mentor" type position. Thanks! 😀

Ummm tutoring is tutoring. Its one of the options on AMCAS. It'll take 5 seconds for someone reading your app to realize you classified it as leadership just so you could look like you had more leadership. And I believe adcoms don't appreciate dishonesty or shadiness...

Hell, I figured it out without even reading your essay!

While I don't know about the AMCAS category, at least one school considers tutoring to satisfy their leadership requirement:

Leadership is defined as a position of responsibility for others, with a purpose to guide or direct others. Dedication, determination, ability to make decisions and a willingness to contribute to the welfare of others are indicators of one's ability to succeed in medicine. Individuals with these characteristics readily accept positions of leadership and are an asset to their community and profession. Leadership capacity can be demonstrated in a variety of ways. Positions in employment, church, community and school organizations including coaching, tutoring and mentoring will satisfy this requirement.

Yes, tutoring should be a position of leadership. I would agree with the previous poster that it is more closely defined as mentoring, but then I would say that mentoring is a form of leadership. Yes, leadership is a broad category.

However, like another poster mentioned, you shouldn't put it as leadership on the application, since there is a specific topic for "tutoring." It doesn't mean that med schools won't consider it a leadership position though. Just like I put my military leadership experience underneath the category of "Paid employment - military" and not leadership

No, mentioning it as leadership is pretentious.

Tutoring is mentoring/teaching.
