Medically related work/volunteer experiences are currently solidifying my desire to become a physician. I am currently shadowing D.O- and I might apply to both MD and DO schools. In the end, I'm sure I would be happy to be a physician.

But, is wanting the M.D after your name really that bad? Is it? I know this sounds very superficial-it probably is, and I openly admit that.

I'm not trying to start a DO vs MD flame war. Both worked very hard as pre meds and as med students/residents and also work hard in their practice. 👍 The only biology classes I've taken are a year of general bio, a quarter of cell bio, and a botany class...so I am by no means credible enough to interpret or make statements on OMM...can anyone really understand OMM until they finish DO school?

Why could it possibly be bad? If you are going to be happy by just being a physician would it really make a difference? In most traditional settings, both types of degrees are approaching an equal status (although it's not equal just yet).
