Hi this question is for the women. Did you guys mostly stick to wearing typical suit colors i.e black/blue/grey? By any chance did you also wear a conservative colored top, or perhaps something a little colorful. Did those in color get strange looks? Lastly, did you wear lipstick or not? Thanks 🙂

I had a black suit but got a couple fun colored button down shirts from Bananna to change it up. No strange looks, but I didn't look all that strange I guess. One girl I was interviewing with didn't wear a suit, she had on a cute twinset and tweed pants. She looked good, but I think she stood out because she looked informal. Lipstick was a no for me, but I'm usually a blistex girl anyways. Just don't go crazy with the makeup, one girl was noticed by pretty much everyone because of a veneer/lipstick/eyeshadow combo that could scare small children. Yikes. That poor girl probably just got my seat at my top choice because of that comment. Karma.

I wore a black suit and a thin, ivory sweater underneath. Most people will be in that attire. I wasn't so keen on sticking out at an interview because of my clothes, I'd rather have my application do it for me, you know? As for the lipstick, I wore a tiny bit of a pretty copper color (I have olive colored skin and dark hair, so that color blends in well and doesn't really look like I have lipstick on). I really prefer carmex to lipstick anyway. Go eassssssyyy on the makeup. Little bit of mascara, maybe a dab of eyeliner and neutral shadow, carmex. That was my big shebang.

I wore black pants (no jacket though) and a striped buttondown with pretty muted colors. No one seemed to take notice, so I guess I didn't stand out. I did not wear any lipstick since I don't wear lipstick anyways, but one girl did and it looked fine. I say, don't worry, relax, and be yourself 🙂

i wore a black suit and a pink banana buttondown underneath. i wouldnt recommend bright color suits. as for the make-up, i had some foundation, mascara, eyeliner, a little eyeshadow and a bit rose-colored lipstick. you should really go light on the make up. but i really dont think they care that much. as long as you look presentable. 🙂
good luck~

Thanks ladies, and gentleman as well for you input. Your comments have helped me reach a decision..color it is..I'm wearing a dark suit so it should be fine.

Polarnut, and Comet..if showing a little cleavage is all it took, then life would be ever so easy! I wouldn't be sweating this interview process half as much

your life would be ever so easy. in fact, not many can say a little bit of their cleavage would be all it takes. that said, congrats, you sound like you have a decent cleavage, and i for one, can appreciate such god's gift on a woman

carry on

I wore a PINK dress shirt with a traditional black suit. I also had on these cute aqua-marine dangling earrings. Not much make-up; a little bit of lipstick and mascara. I also had my eyebrows waxed 😛 I felt like such a lady.

there's nothing wrong with a little bit of color as long as it's not bright. i wore a tan suit to my interview and i was the only one in pretty much all of them. i figured i might stick out a little more if i wore something different then black. easier to rememer so and so in the tan suit or that girl in the grey suit over everyone else in black.

didn't get any weird looks or anything. though i did get a "wow...you're the only one who dared to be different and wear some color. at least i know you're not going to a funeral." at one interview. i think it got me brownie points.

I wore a conservative, navy blue pant suit to my interviews with an ivory blouse underneith. However, there was this one girl in one of my interviews who wore a green skirt suit. She really stood out but she looked comfortable. I'd say wear whatever suit you would feel comfortable in. I think it is good to stand out a little but not too much. The girl in the green suit seemed to know the dean of admissions so maybe she was a sure "in" and didn't feel uncomfortable standing out.

Also, the rule of thumb for wearing makeup in interviews is wear lipstick at least but not in those extreme shades of bright red or pink. A lipstick that complements your complexion is always a plus.

Thanks, I had my interview today, and I did go the color route. Apparently, i was worried for no reason, because there were others who were'nt afraid of wearing color
