Hello everyone! I have a question regarding Weill Cornell. I'm a sophomore in college from Louisiana right now, and I know this may seem to early to stress about it, but I'm afraid my GPA will completely ruin my chances of even getting an interview to this school. So just so it looks neater here's what I got:
cGPA: 3.1
sGPA: 2.9
** I have like like 5 Cs, I told you.AWFUL)
~ If i do ok for the next 2 1/2 years I should be able to get it up to around a 3.7. Also if i take online classes and summer classes I hopefully should be able to bring it up higher.
ECs:
~ LSU Science Residential College Alumni
~ Louisiana State Intercollegiate Honor Band
~ Sigma Alpha Iota International Professional Women's Music Fraternity
- Sergeant-at-Arms
~ Kappa Kappa Psi Music Service Fraternity
~ Marching Band
- Librarian Student Worker
- Office Student Worker
~ Symphonic Band
~ Symphonic Winds
**As of now I am also applying for membership to the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Honor Soceity
Programs/ Internships/Volunteer:
~ Summer Medical and Dental Education Program at Duke University
**Applying for research programs over this summer. I'm also planning on shadowing a physician this spring semester as well as possibly volunteer.

So as you can see I'm pretty involved and I plan on gaining more leadership positions throughout the rest of my college career. I also trying to find some interesting summer programs that can help my application stand out a little bit better in that instance, hopefully get a great score on my MCAT, as well as ultimately raise my gpa. I guess my main question is despite all my efforts do you think I will still have a chance? Thanks so much, I am open to any other advice ya'll have!! 🙂

At this point, to be blunt, yes. Unless you get straight 4.0's and crush the MCAT with a 36+, your chances are minimal.

You need to reevaluate why you want to go to Weill Cornell specifically. Even perfect applicants can't get into their top choices. At a certain point it comes down to luck, its just a matter of how much you can improve your luck, which stats, letters, etc.

If you improve your GPA to a theoretical max of ~3.5-3.6, theres no reason you won't get into a med school, just don't focus too much on any specific one.

If you get straight 4.0s for the rest of your time there and a huge MCAT you might have a shot at an interview... Why Cornell? There are a ton of other schools in cities and in NY that might eventually work for you. I'd take the time to research them and never have your heart set on one school only. You never know what the Adcoms are looking for in an applicant and no matter how hard anyone works to get into schools, the process can be unpredictable. I'm in the middle of applying and do not have my heart set on any schools (especially reaches) even now.

I won't comment on your specific chances because others have already done so. However, I will say that you shouldn't apply to a specific school with the intention of getting in. Rather, you apply to a group of schools which are reasonable for your application strength and hope for the best.

As of right now, ALL MD schools are off the table for you. BUT, if you can indeed ace the remaining time you in UG, and indeed finish up around 3.7, and ace the MCAT as well, then yes, aim for Cornell and all other high tiers.

Thanks for all the blunt honest replies. I am planning on making straight As throughout the rest of my undergraduate years hopefully as well as take summer classes and online classes to help boosten up my GPA and I am planning on studying my butt off for the MCAT in order to make a great score. I mainly wanted to go to cornell because I saw their Music and Medicine program and I was very interested in it. I'm obviously applying for multiple schools (I'm not that crazy haha) so I will have a back up. I'm just one of those people who HAS to shoot for the top, but I always have back u p 🙂. Is there anything else ya'll feel like I could improve on other then GPA and a killer MCAT score?

Your gpa matters more than your extra curriculars....cut back until you prove you can handle your gpa
