I'm going to PCS from one duty station to the next. I see that I have a detach day at my old command. Is the detach day considered a travel day for the member? I figure I have about 6 days of travel time based on 2100 miles / 350. I'm just curious if the travel clock starts on the day you detach or if it's the next day. Thanks.

No, not a travel day. You will also get "proceed time" which is usually 4 days.

You should be able to show up 10 days later without using leave.

I looked through my orders and there was nothing about proceed time. Oh well. PSD said that detach day was a travel day. Guess I'll have to hustle across the country.

When is your "report no later than.." date? Report on that day and not a second earlier unless you have made prior arrangements with your next command. I have never heard of someone having six days to detach, move and report unless they were changing duty stations within the same general geographic area. The only way I could see this happening is if you got screwed on the front end with a Detach in Feb, Report in March and the detaching command held you for too long...

I once had to drive from Virginia to San Diego in 2 and a half days, but that was because my ship was deploying and I was at a school TAD, not PCS. Luckily I was still a Copenhagen man back then...

I detach in April and must arrive NLT May. I may use up to 30 days of leave. Essentially, I don't feel like burning leave up just for moving across the country. So, if it's about 2000 miles of travel, that should give me 6 days of travel time. I'll check in at the end of those 6 days. I'm fortunate that I'll have a little overlap with the guy I'm replacing. So, he'll probably cover things for the first 2 weeks of the month while I'm checking in, and I'll pick up the slack the last 2 weeks of the month while he's checking out.
