Is your shop seeing cases?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And yet people on hear are talking about the Chinese in poor taste, when they seem to have enough PPEs and are donning it properly?
Is it not possibly for some cargo shipment of equipment from China? As in a plane, chartered by some wealthy Billionaire flies to wherever these PPE's are made and flies back every day with fresh supplies? We got plenty of billionaires in this country. Or a go fund me. Ok, maybe that's what is needed. Let me do some research and possibly find a way to help.

They just passed a two TRILLION dollar stimulus bill based on our taxpayer money.

If the government can't source and deliver PPE to us tomorrow with literally, no joke, 1/2000 of that bill (which would is billion dollars with of PPE spending) then... WTF.

Well, let’s see what happens tomorrow. I am not that optimistic, but I hope you are right and I am wrong.

Apparently the PPE mainly comes from China? If so...

This would be a good time for some manufacturers here in the US to start manufacturing these items. Or China needs to send us some but are their planes aloud to land here?

And we need reusable ones that can be sterilized because I can’t imagine the trash that’s being created right now.

Ok, gonna take a break today.

Oh I'm pessimistic. I doubt they'll send much.

We are now sending most anesthesia machines to the epicenter in New York. From what I understand is many hospitals are doing this. There is a fallout zone that is growing as patients that are “stable” are shipped out to further hospitals to make room for new patients. I have a friend at a New York inner suburb hospital who is calm and a total straight shooter and he is describing this as a “war zone with bodies everywhere.”

Sounds like Italy round 2.

NYC then New Orleans. San Francisco is doing quite well comparitively. IMHO, no city in the USA will have more deaths (even accounting for the population) than the greater NY area (Westchester, NYC, Long Island, etc).

NYC is now the epicenter of Covid 19 in the USA.

Good luck with "Tomorrow".

I got my own N95 masks from oversea yesterday. Hopefully some gown and goggles by next week. I believe SH$$ from government.

I read something from Stanford (?) about 70 Celsius in oven to de-contaminate masks.

I saw the same thing about ovens.

I would be wary of the specs when coming from overseas.

I am gonna have to agree with another poster that, that feels very inadequate. The plastic blue gowns? So parts of face and neck exposed as well as the back which could be touching surfaces in the room.
In comparison to the videos I have seen from a China in full spacesuits. Seems like the Italians and Middle East are a small step below them.

Hopefully healthcare workers don’t start dropping like flies.
Do you feel safe? That this is adequate? How do you guys remove PPE?

I think we need the Chinese assistance here or actually people who work in these high risk level containment labs. How many healthcare workers in New York are testing positive?
I may have to just stay home and pass work on this one.

I’m going to agree wholeheartedly with this post. If my hospital is out of N95 and goggles, I am out. It’s so obvious that our President, the CDC and our own medical societies dont give a damn about us. It’s so pathetic to see the Chinese wearing space suit and we are using trash bags. Absolute dog pile poop.

Someone stole all of our masks, lol.

Backup plan number 18 is to use an Anaesthetic facemask with the hook thingy in situ:
thumbsmall_anesthetic_facemask3.jpg

HME filter on end.
Endoscopy bite-block rubber strap thing attached to the hook and holding it against our faces.
🤣

I mean, it's ingenuous, but also concerning.

Our hospital doesn't have PAPRs for those who fail the N95 mask so our department chair actually sincerely recommended we do exactly this. Apparently it's actually being used at multiple hospital in NY.

We got a restock of a bit of PPE today. Was talking to the cathlab folks and half their "new" N95s have some kind of fuzzy looking mold sht on the inside of the mask because they're presumably expired.

Honestly it's probably far better than an N95 mask. Absolutely no question about having a perfect seal. And the filters are rated for 99.9%+ of viral particles IIRC.
