Hey everyone,
** I was just wondering how US students who attend med school in Israel or England tend to place when they come back to the US for their residencies. Also, could anyone please point me towards schools in either place?

Thanks

I know people who have attended med school in Israel and have said it the best experience of their lives. If you are willing to go to israel then you shoud really only go to one school and that is sacklar. Sacklar is a real american program, not an international program that requires you to pass special tests to practice medicine in america. Its campus is in tel aviv, probaly one of the the nicest city in israel. Most importantly, you spend time in America doing your rotations during the clinical years.

The other MD programs in Israel are at Ben Gurion University (in Beer Shavah) and Techion (in Haifa). All their courses are taught in english in the american format but they are international programs not american.

Hope I helped you.

Shalom Alecha,
Dave

Actually, Sacklar students are still FMGs just like Ben Gurion. Even though the program is primarily for american students they are still FMGs. However, everyone atleast that I have known for Ben Gurion have received excellent residencies back in the United States. I didn't apply to Sacklar but did to Ben Gurion and have been accepted there.

^ true. remember going to ANY program outside the united states will cause you to be classified as an FMG with Puerto Rico being the only exception, even if the program is designed for Americans (st george, etc)

Getting into medical school in the UK is very difficult. Most schools limit the total number of foreigners per year to 6 or less. Most programs are also 6 years and start immediately after high school.

Oxford has a 4 year program for people who have already studied science at the university. I knew an American who was in this program when I studied at Oxford my junior year. I think other British institutions have similar programs.

i'm under the impression there is a program that is geared towards american students at a university somewhere in london. the name escapes me though 🙁
