As usual, it's shortly before shift change and I get a critically ill patient. That's not such a big deal, because as we all know this kind of thing always comes in right before shift change.
No, what gets me is that the patient is shortly followed in by his two mid-20's daughters, who are--even for this town--unusually attractive. Stunningly so. One of them was a dead ringer for Jennifer Garner. And neither of them wearing a ring. They were ideal patient's family members, educated, intelligent, caring, and not at all demanding.
Maybe there are hospitals where those kind of people come in often, but not where I work. Blue moon kind of thing here. And ya can't really hit on family members in that kind of situation. Doesn't look good. Doesn't feel good. But it doesn't really feel good watching them walk out the door either.
