i took a kaplan course last year, and it wasnt that helpful, probably because no one in the entire kaplan office knew anything about the oat, just the dat + mcat. it was kinda discouraging, so i didnt work as hard as i should have in the class, so i wasnt prepared to take it. i started seriously studying for it this past july while i was working a full time job at an optom office so it was mainly 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. i pushed test date back 3 times because i juss didnt feel ready. i think thats really important, being confident, everyone told me so but i didnt believe it until today.
i studied from the kaplan prep books that they gave me during the course and i bought the kaplan book at barnes just because they had complete practice tests in there. i did a lot of practice problems esp from the practice tests, not just the thick book and the flashcards are a MUST. i also made some of my own flashcards. closer to test date, i juss made review sheets of things i couldnt make myself remember and brought those into test day with me. and i think thats basically it...most important piece of advice id have to give is 1. dont be discouraged by ur practice test scores and 2. practice reading comp from an mcat or lsat book bc none of the kaplan material prepares you enough for the actual (i went from 390 practice to 330 actual).
and come november 7th, ur going to own it =) and be just as happy as i am right now!!
