Just got in off the waitlist at pitt, but I'm strongly leaning towards staying with IU. I liked IU's campus and people better, Indy is nicer than Pittsburgh, and the only thing pitt has going for it is a much higher rank and potentially better education with 3x more faculty to students. The 15K less or so instate at IU is another plus, but is not a major factor.

How much would residency directors favor pitt over iu? Would anyone else pick IU in my position?

gw over pitt for me...to each his own

Good Luck!!

15k over 4 years or per year?

Per year. But honestly the money does not make much difference for me.

Where would you rather spend 4 years of your life? I don't mean where would you rather LEARN for 4 years, cause you're getting an MD no matter where you go, but where would you rather wake up, drive to school, go home, have dinner, hang out, and go to bed every night?

I'd choose Pitt because it has amazing resources and faculty. I'm pretty biased because that's my #1. If you're happier at IU, then go there.

No matter what, in the end, you're still a doctor.

I'd rather live in Indy, and for that reason I'm strongly leaning towards IU.

Pitt is the ****. It was 1 of my top choices 😛 The only bad thing about Pittsburgh is that it's the 2nd cloudiest city in America. Since I'm orginally from the Sunshine State, that's a problem.

Pitt is a hell of a school man. Reconsider!

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is simply phenomenal. If Pitt were in a different city it would be next to impossible to get into med school there.

That said, it's not so much better than IU that it's worth 15k/year. IU will get you where you need to go and Indy is relatively equal to Pittsburgh as a city.

Incidentally: both schools are home to top tier Emergency Medicine residency programs (shameless plug).
