Good news for anyone who wants to or is currently study/ing medicine in English in Poland.

Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, is the first school that teaches medicine in English in Poland whose graduates are allowed to practice medicine in California. This is pretty big news, because it's the first school whose 4-year AND 6-year curriculum are approved, for all graduates past and present. The approval is fully retroactive, which is pretty awesome. So all you old Jag grads, if you see this thread, you are now good to go to practice or train in California!

It's not up on the California medical board website yet, but I was e-mailed about the issue personally by Pat Park, who is in charge of the approval issues in California. You can e0mail her at:

I'd expect it will get more competitive to get into the 4-year program at Jagiellonian now for a couple of reason:

1) California approval for a 4-year program; the only other schools that are offshore and aimed towards Americans that can claim this are Saba, SGU, Ross, and AUC.
2) Location; would you rather live in Krakow, a city that won awards for being the most enjoyable city in Europe for young people, or a third-world country (most Caribbean islands, unfortunately)
3) Cost; way cheaper as far as tuition goes ($11,000 USD per year) and living costs (rent, food, transportation, etc. is all pretty cheap compared to the US and the Caribbean).

Good luck to all attending or planning on attendin Jagiellonian!
