Hey all,

Anyone here postpone their exam to or are planning to take the exam on January 2014? It's the final year in the old format without the new psychology/biochemistry section.

My reason for postponing to January is because I got a bit too lazy in the studying process and will be starting a new job soon, so my September date is too soon for me to be ready to tackle the beast. So I postponed to January. Anyone else out there in a similar situation, any way if there is we have about 5 months of studying to do for this exam.

I plan on starting tonight. Let's try to inspire, motivate, offer a shoulder to cry on, and give advice to our fellow peers who have postponed their exam to Jan or will plan to register in Jan.

Please don't act negatively towards your fellow sdners, or kick them when they are down. I know this happens a lot here in these forums. Keep your bad comments to yourself because we are all friends here. 🙂

I see. When did you do your EK 1001 VR passages and TPHR passages? Have you just taken TPHR vr 1 today only and have TPRH VR 2,3,4 left?
Keep it up!
I did EK101 13 yesterday and got 24/40
The lowest score I've got on verbal before was 29/40 with the huge majority from 32-33/40

I changed nothing about my reasoning and to have a drop of 9 points is ludicrous to me, so I'm arrogantly not faulting myself but the quality of material after reaching EK101 10+

Yep, I have 2-4 left on TPRH

Yes, don't let this number define you ....keep it up! breathe, relax, bring it on! It's like standing at the start line of a maraton 😀

Hey can anyone help me with this question real quick?
It is from TPR 5, number 28. There is a magnetic field pointing to the right and a coil in the middle with a counterclockwise current. Why does the coil rotate clockwise? From what I understood, there are opposing magnetic forces going into and out of the page. Shouldn't they cancel each other out?

I feel like I am not understanding something basic, if you get it let me know!
pm me, gonna need more details on this Q to be able to answer it

13/11/12 on AAMC 10 today, pretty happy with that haha but brutal curve on the verbal... 35/40 is 11?

definitely planning to take the day off before. the most i'll do is look over some notes in the morning but for sure nothing after 1pm

don't sweat the verbal stuff dips, especially if you were doing great on aamc's. ek not writing the real deal haha

The way I figure it, I'm very unlikely to learn some tidbit of information on the last day that make me get a question right that I would have gotten wrong. I'm highly likely to convince myself that I don't know anything about a certain topic and get worked up over something I can't change at that point.

Usually before any big exam, I try to take the day prior to it off. I review some old flash cards or basic material just stay in the zone but stay away from picking up books or any new material last minute. Get good sleep, review your old notes and then its game time! So far, that has worked for me! I am hoping to do the same before my MCAT day!

i think the day before I will do some passages but nothing *too* intense. I will probably do a verbal test, just to keep myself in the zone with that. I still have a few TBR passages I haven't touched so i will probably do some of those, maybe some of the Orgo/gen chem passages I have left from SWB. But nothing too crazy overall.

Any of you guys have plans sorted out for the morning of the exam? IDK how I am going to quench the nerves all morning before my 1PM test.

Wake up at 9 am.
Light workout (~20-30 mins) to get pumped while listening to my favorite tunes.
Eat something that doesn't have any fiber or complex carbs to prevent any gastric upset/noises
Get to Prometric at 12:15pm
Start exam
Finish exam
cry/smile/wtf or all three
Engage in a certain recreational activity that is legal in Amsterdam

GOOD MORNING JANUARY TESTERS! ONE MORE WEEK!
AAMC 11 Monday
Review all FL's plus Wikipremed cards till a day before test day.

Am I the only person spearheading this endeavor and taking it on Thursday?
Couldn't do an 8am exam lol I tried to wake up around 6am every day before I registered but it didn't work so I scheduled a 1pm exam instead lol
When you taking AAMC 11?

When you taking AAMC 11?
Tomorrow at 8am

Gonna review all of my AAMC VR mistakes today and categorize them. I want to see exactly what I'm getting wrong

A lot of the wave optics section of wikipremed seems very advanced. I'm skipping a ton of it

So.. I just looked at the MCAT essentials guide and read that there's no longer an essay portion. Is this true for all tests this year?

Just finished PS. that was definitely quite a step up from the rest IMO. that one passage (you know what i'm talking about) was seriously WTF and I had to read 4-5 times just to kind of get an understanding for the experiment. Very verbal esque. Hope it went OK but I can't say anything about it.
I think this was the only time I was really sweating the clock on PS. had only 2 mins to review.

If i was to give myself a preliminary grade I would give an 11. Lets see...

The only 3 mistakes on PS that I made was on that passage lol

Anyone tried those PS section tests from Kaplan? effing demoralizing lol

Oh my god, so glad I wasn't the only one. I'm missing at least ten questions every test. Definitely not a morale booster.

Also: 13/11/13 on AAMC 11. Pretty happy (especially with the PS), though I'm kind of alarmed by the precipitous dip in my VR scores (13s --> 11s). Honestly, at this point I'll be over the moon if I get a 35 on the real deal.

BS actually felt reasonable except for the infamous "Ebola" passage. All my incorrect BS answers were for that damn passage.... The question stems for it are worded in a really convoluted manner but the questions themselves were not by any means impossible, so when I went back to review I felt like a total idiot.

Just finished finished PS on AAMC 10. I thought it was pretty easy, but I'm not sure how I did, since I hear the curve is rough.

AAMC 10: 11/11/15. finished with 30 minutes left on bio and missed one question- i think it just speaks to how much luck is a factor with how familiar you are with the material you get. PS was brutal.

Did e-mcat just crap out for anyone else? My test froze and now I can't get it to open. So frustrating considering how much money I've spent on AAMC practice tests. Pretty much ruined any predictive value of the verbal section =/

Just finished AAMC 10. Got yet another 40 (14/12/14). PS felt very easy to me. Verbal was easy. BS definitely felt different. The passages were much more critical thinking/reading based than knowledge based compared to other AAMCs, but some of the discretes were quite specific.

Tough curve on PS and VR. 1 wrong on PS was a 14, 3 wrong on VR was a 12.

dude you are a genius... well done bro, you nailed it

AAMC 10:
Post test predictions:

PS: 10/11
VR: 11
BS: 12

Actual score:
PS: 11
VR: 10
BS: 13

Shocked to see 10 on VR. I really thought I did much better than that, it felt easy to me. There were no artsy-fartsy passages either. Disappointing

Well done Phunky! You are looking good for test day 🙂.

I thought BS was REALLY easy. I guess that it is reflected in the scale (3 wrong is a 13, ouch). PS was a breeze except *that* passage. a 12 would have been nice. made some dumb mistakes

Pretty pissed off about AAMC 10. Just finished. Verbal kills me every time. 13/8/13. I hate verbal so much. Gonna take like 2 verbal section tests every day till test day..

my B

So, on AAMC 8, I got 90% of questions right and got a 39. on 10, I scored 88% correct for a 34...

#9, which is on the lower end of my range so far, I got 83% correct for a 33. Will scales be more forgiving on the real MCAT? Hopefully an 88 translates into like a 35/36?

So, up to test 11, here are my practice test scores:

3: 29 (right after content, no passages)
4: 34
5: 32
7: 35
8: 39
9: 33
10: 34
11: ? take on 1/20

My scores have been all over the place. I really have no idea what to expect on test day TBH. I *really* want >35 but not sure that I can expect that as most of my scores, even after disregarding 3, have been sub 35. My average is 11 and change for each section

aamc 9 today 15/11/12

during verbal, I thought I heard someone breaking into my house twice and paused the test twice to check it out...
good news: no one broke in
bad news: probably affected my score and predictive value of verbal section
worse news: I've finally gone crazy from MCAT

is anyone writing out equations or notes or anything in those 10 minutes before each section? I haven't been but I don't know what I would write anyway...

I haven't either.. It would probably help me for PS though...

I used to do this, and it's good practice not only because it helps you review the major equations you'll need later on in the section, but it also gets your brain into thinking mode during those 10 minutes (as opposed to just sitting there). This way, when the 10 minutes is over, you're fired up and ready to go and this does give you a little bit of extra confidence. Also, writing out equations instead of doing nothing will calm your nerves because you'll be occupied. However, keep in mind that some test centers are very strict about no writing during breaks while other test centers allow you to write as long as the clock is ticking (even if it's a break).

cool thanks! I'll try it out for aamc 11. can't hurt, right? did you plan something to write in advance or did you just dump things onto the paper?

feeling the burn-out from 2 consecutive days of FLs. going to take an unscheduled day off tomorrow! feels good. go patriots and niners :soexcited:

EDIT: maybe just a half day haha

Yeah lol there was this one passage that expected me to know the Fermi-Dirac Distribution lol the scale is so lenient though. I got 12 wrong out of 52 and that still scaled to a 13 in PS lol. BS is also ridiculous, 5 wrong=15 lol

PATRIOTS! Woo hoo! Enjoy the game for me- I'm going to be trying to memorize little biology details. I want to try and grab every last point on bio, even those pesky discretes!

What's everyone up to today? I'm just going over note cards and brushing up on areas I'm somewhat weak in. Probably going to watch the Pats game on mute while I study.
